Katy Perry apologizes and addresses criticism regarding past comments she made about Britney Spears: humor had always been a way to deflect

Katy Perry has received heat from Britney Spears fans for years after the Smile singer made light, even poked fun of, Britney's mental health struggles.

At the 2017 Grammys, Katy was asked about the importance of taking time off for yourself.

“That’s called taking care of your mental health,” she said. “And I haven’t shaved my head yet.” Elsewhere, she said “I’ve done all of them [hair colors] and only thing left to do is shave my head, which I’m really saving for a public breakdown. I’m down for that. I’m almost moments away from that, obviously.”

Katy is finally publicly addressing what she said and making things right.  Below is an excerpt from a recent radio interview where she discussed how her own mental health deteriorated in the Witness era from all the negative controversies.

“Anyone in this intense a spotlight, they understand that the tightrope just gets tighter and smaller, and that with one word, one costume malfunction, it can all blow up,” she says. "Humor had always been a way to deflect. “I have used that as a mechanism for coping and for my own fear, and have said things that have been sloppy or insensitive.”

She adds: “But there is definitely not a whole lot of empathy or compassion towards people sometimes growing – or trying to ******* grow – in the spotlight. Because growth also means failing. And I’ve done a lot of falling flat on my face.”

Hopefully, this causes a mend between both fanbases.  Thoughts, Exhale?

Posting this and dipping from this thread because I know things about to get nasty down here :katyclown:

Anyway, y'all happy now? She was herself in a very bad place when she made those comments, as less than 2 weeks after the show she did cut her hair and went through a whole makeover, while at the same time dealing with the defeat or Hillary whom she had endorsed big time and her break up with Orlando Bloom at the time.

Katy has cited Britney as an inspiration for her California Dreams Tour (2011) and has admitted to being imbued by the Circus Tour. Moreover, she has mentioned that she loved Britney's artistry, additionally substantiated by a video of her bopping out to Piece Of Me back in 2008 for her debut album photoshoot. They also met in 2013 at the Smurfs movie premiere and Katy was a co-writer for Passenger on Britney Jean. At the 2014 VMAs, Katy also credited Britney's fashion as an inspiration, adorning a revamped version of the iconic Denim Outfit Britney and Justin wore to the 2002 AMAs.

Now it's Shawn Mendes's turn.

Im not buying it katy hairy . Let those other stan bases praise u though . I'll enjoy her music on youtube and besides that im not a supporter.

I've got every celebrity's name that bad mouthed Britney written on a red paper.

Your album still won't do well. B itch :katyclown:

Now SMILE and wave :chrissy:

Imagine if our entire society has this outlook on life, that we should never allow people time and space to grow and change but instead hold grudges for past misgivings and judge their whole personality by it :pensiveney:

Britney herself as stipulated that she isn't perfect and she make mistakes too, and we as fans were willing to see past her mistakes and watch her mature into the woman she is now.

Alas, I cannot change how you perceive a certain celebrity nor is it going to benefit me in any way if I could, but it's not up to me to impugn your morals and principles.

Apologize doesn't save her from flopping :uknowit:

Just how years of schooling still won't save you from misspelling "apologies" then :katyclown:

You seriously think Katy apologized about a 3 year old statement that only stans care about to boost her album sales? Especially when an upcoming album is not even the first priority in her life as of now?

Everyone knows it's gonna underperform compared to her previous projects. But what actually matters is that she's the happiest she's ever been in her life at the moment.

If you don't have anything nice to say, please it's better if you don't say anything.

Spoiler

I'm sorry if I'm being offensive, coming for someone's typo error most prob. I'm just in a really salty mood today if you'll excuse me

The interview hasn't been aired yet, but here's what the radio host mentioned:

Quote

"She acknowledged the mistakes she made with past comments about Britney Spears, admitting they were insensitive and not intentional"
