Yes, organized religion is not always acting in the spirit of religion.

I see warnings against "Pharisees" (Jesus) and "People of the Book" (Quran)  (many scholars) or "donkeys loaded with books" (Jews) in the religious books.

Direct connection with God more important than these intermediaries is my take on it
