Slate Magazine Calls #FreeBritney Advocates a “Fringe Fan Group” who “revealed nothing”

That the horrors of Spears’ conservatorship have, in Spears’ telling, run deeper than anyone knew does not “vindicate” the baseless and irresponsible speculation of these fans, who at best are motivated by their genuine but misguided sense of connection to Spears—and at worst have parlayed their insinuations about her into a full-on griftthemselves. But now that Spears has herself revealed the abuses of the conservatorship, a bit of #FreeBritney whitewashing has begun. Now this movement was always about the potential for structural abuse within conservatorships, never mind these fans’ total lack of expertise on a battle that actual disability rights activists have fought for years, and with a much wider scope. Now these fans were always the sober voices who just wanted to reveal Spears’ truth, never mind all the false information they pushed, and still do. The idea that these hucksters are unsung heroes, even peripherally, of Spears’ long struggle is infuriating revisionism.  They have, repeatedly, shown themselves to be yet another set of people who are willing to insert themselves in the singer’s life, no matter what she says or does.

Edit 07-02: folks, let’s not jump to conclusions here. He is just doing his job and it might be just a task that was given to him to write a news that goes against the current or something. In the sea of pro free Britney news, it have a better chance to stand up more if it was against it. I mean journalists these days only got paid by the clicks they made. So yeah, let’s just be civil and nice. I didn’t expect some personal attack comments in his Instagram :(

Well, it might be a little condescending but that's not entirely untrue! Although I do believe that fans wants what is best for Britney, is undeniable that is a lot of misinformation and speculation being sell as truths. Plus, everybody does seems to believe they know what's best for Britney and how her life should be!

she spoke out because she finally saw people would believe her - she said this, im not making this up.

why would people believe her now? because of #freebritney

what does #freebritney advocates in a nutshell? to end her conservatorship NOW. what did britney said herself in her testimony? she wants the conservatorship to end now... (there's more to it than just this but you get the point)
