Popular Post Blackout2006
Hi guys! It's been a long time since I have made a Controvery2006-tease thread so here we are with my right opinion Just a few weeks ago, we had a thread stating In The Zone was her peak (Will drop it by the end of the post) and there was a 50% agree and 50% disagree ratio. So I decided to channel my opinion as well so here we are! Here is why I think Britney's peak isn't ...Baby One More Time, self-titled, Circus or Myah Marie Jean but Oops!...I Did It Again On the glorious day of March 27, 2000 when 18 year old teen-pop debutant Britney Spears dropped the single and MV for "Oops!...I Did It Again", her 5th single at the time after the release of "From The Bottom of My Broken Heart". Pre-OIDIA, the critics and GP labelled her already as an one-hit wonder who will fade away with her next record. This is what makes "Oops!...I Did It Again" just more iconic alongside the ironically-title, because when it dropped out it became the biggest female hit of the year 2000 reaching #1 in over 20+ countries, went platinum in over 10 countries and was #1 on the United World Charts for nearly 3 months! The video however is what set the game for this song. Based on Britney's concept and idea, it shows Britney in the instantly recognizable red catsuit on Mars in a futuristic world! It received positive acclaim, with many of the critics comparing it to her debut record and some (Even Britney herself!) recognizing it as the better version. Now it was time for the release of her album. Expectation and anticipation was as high as the Everest for how the album will perform. On May 16 of that same year, the album was released with the same title of the lead-single and by the time the day was over, it sold 500,000 copies in its first 24 hours of availability. The album debuted at #1 selling over 1.319 million copies in its first week and 2.5 million copies around the globe. It was #2 for 15 consecutive weeks and sold over 16 million copies by the end of 2000. Britney then released 3 more huge-hit singles from the era and the album proved to have become an even bigger success than BOMT was and the rest is HERstory! Here are the iconic moments from this era: 2000 VMA Performance: Before the legendary 2001 VMA Snake Performance, there was the 2000 VMA that showed the world that if you mess with Brit, boy you must have tripped! It was the year after Britney's infamous performance in 1999 with *NSYNC that she returned back to the stage but not in the cute, girl next door image she held in her last era. She kicked off the performance with her controversial cover of "I Can't Get No (Satisfaction)" wearing a glimmering loose feminine tuxedo topped off with the black hat. She then enters the stage where she rips off the clothing and reveals the world-shocking suit which created a media-frenzy around the world to perform the rock version of "Oops!...I Did It Again". The whole night was then taken away by Britney's stage presence and shock-factor! Fame, Popularity & Cultural Impact As you can see in the thumbnail and video, the demand for anything britney-related during this time was monumental! She was awarded as the best-selling female artist of 2000. The album already was a massive success and she was the most searched celebrity in 2000. She ate this era up in terms of popularity! What makes this era just even more special was that in the BOMT era, Britney was more of a successful female singer and in the Britney era, she transcended from pop icon to a celebrity however in the OIDIA era, she was a mix of both! She was a singer and her songs were playing always in the radios and tour tickets selling out and she was a star by her own right being regarded as one of the most successful and richest celebrities of the time. She was a bit of everything during this time, and her beauty was out of this world! Anyways, what do you guys think? agree? lemme know 16 1 5 Link to comment
MeAgainstTheMusic_
I always feel like Britney doesn’t like Oops that much. She always favours BOMT. Probably only because it was her first but she’s missed it from a few tours too. I’d say Britney era and OIDIA were defiantly her peak. 3 2 Link to comment

Britney herself said that she felt personally that the OIDIA album was better than the BOMT record, i think she likes this album more since it isnt so dreamy and cheesy like her debut record but yeah i agree on that last sentence 1 Link to comment

The only real critique I have of it is that Britney stopped exploring her voice all that much after and I'm sure that after they saw what a huge success it was they encouraged her to just keep going with it. BTW, I didn't know the BOMT VMA performance was infamous. What was it critiqued for? 1 2 Link to comment

Exactly. The album is light-years ahead BOMT, since it is more mature, better-produced, composed, and a well done album and it doesnt sound weird to listen to in 2021. 13 minutes ago, Goten21 said: BTW, I didn't know the BOMT VMA performance was infamous. ColdAsFire89
I think there are different peaks in Britneys timeline.. Peak in popularity/sales: I agree with you is 2000 peak in beauty: probably 2001 Peak in artistry and dance is: 2003 Peak in media interest: 2000 or 2007 Peak in tour gross: 2009 sadly all her peaks are pre-2010... :( 4 3 Link to comment
Popular Post Sgt Spears deputy
Oops era had the third-best photo-shoots of her career after Blackout and In The Zone. And two of my all-time favorite pictures of her. I can´t find them. She is laying on a couch with red boots on.And on the other one she wears a black dress and hold something in her hands. 10 Link to comment

Fab britney
Everything oopsney did was iconic. I feel like that was peak britney mania, and it just continued into the britney era. The oops singles and videos are what u think of when u think of classic britney 4 Link to comment

2K16NEY
I loved the OIDIA era. My cousin and I both went to Virgin Megastore with my parents in Miami to buy the CD’s. We played the **** out of them in our CD players. She was on MTV and VH1 ALL DAY. I mean the world revolved around her those days. I do remember playing the CD so much that it eventually got scratches on it and some of my fave songs on the album would skip when I tried to listen to it :( Also regarding the VMA performance, I really thought she was n0Od when she ripped off her suit... it took a bit to realize she was wearing a skin colored outfit underneath. Anyway the performance rocked my little kid heart. Ugh I miss the good ol’ days. 6 Link to comment

HIM
The part where you said that she was a singer in BOMT and became a celebrity in the Britney era made me realize that yeah she was a globally adored icon during OIDIA. Even kids still loved her at the time. She lost many kid fans in 2001 so her peak as the Britney mega pop star is definitely 2000. 3 4 Link to comment

Her peak as a celebrity is definitely either 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 or 2007; all for different reasons. 2 Link to comment

Wow, Its so fun as a young person to read stories like this of how times were before i was born, soo fascinating I remember seeing a comment in a youtube video talking about how they went to target in 2000 and the shelves holding the OIDIA copies were sold out, except for 1 which that commentor got. Her power back then was clearly no joke 4 Link to comment
