Delete Outrageous from Britney’s discography?

5:11 onward Britney talks about Outrageous and how she thinks the song is “cool” but there’s better on the album which I have to agree :clap1:

She tried to distance herself from the song at times because there was a lot of negativity associated with R. Kelly, post-2002 when he got arrested and was on trial, so she didn’t feel right about praising him and his craft when it had the ability to tarnish her reputation.

She obviously felt iffy working with him from the get go, no doubt about it, even though he helped pen one of the highlights on the album, as even noted by the interviewer.

I guess it’s to stop him profiting from streams, any future purchases and royalties (but admittedly I don’t know how music sales work in the current climate)

Also its to show solidarity with the victims by taking a public stand against him. But outrageous wasn’t like a well known R jelly song or anything so I don’t think it’s as crucial in Brinny case as it is for artists who have released and promoted collabs with him.

On a side note, I remember various ITZ interviews where Britney gave off the vibe that she didn’t really like the song and I always got the impression that she was pushed to work with him since he was on RCA too. And she really fought to release other singles over it. Like she chose to have Snoop in the video, over R Jelly, who has nothing to do with the song.

Then research every album, movie and products you buy so you’re not accidentally supporting a bad person. It’s useless and pointless. And I bet the people who stop watching Spacey movies and stop buying R Kelly songs and all that still spend their money on meat literally supporting ****** and whatnot.

Well you’re speaking to a vegan to here ha :)

Ofc we can’t control the content we consume and where it comes from, if the people involved are reputable people or predators. We don’t know what happens behind closed doors. How could we? But when do, and we have the knowledge given to is, well then I don’t see the problem in choosing to boycott them all together?

Not one of her greatest songs at all. She didn't want it as a single really, she pushed for MATM and Toxic. Also I'm sure if she would've made a video for Breathe on Me or Touch of My Hand she wouldn't have broken a knee :bedtime: she wasn't even comfortable working with him or promoting the song :mhm: she kinda had to do it for sure cus he was in the same label

tbh its one of the very very few songs from itz i could never see as a single. even with a full video i dont see it thriving in the charts at all, she would've been called a try hard.

It makes him money and gives him success...people shouldn't be supporting him? I don't understand how you don't understand this. It's basically like him "getting fired".

I get that but what i'm saying is: they know who he is and what he did, if i know that there's this dude that did certain things and wants to work with me on my record i'd tell him to gtfo!!! :smokney2: it's not like they were forced to work with him (or at least that's what i hope) i hope i explained it better now! And tbh i don't even care if they delete the song from the streaming services, i was just expressing my opinion! :brityes:

I respectfully disagree with your first statement and think that it is one of the highlights of not only ITZ, but Britney’s entire discography. The track was very experimental for Britney’s standards and I love how it blended a myriad of Middle Eastern, African and Asian instruments onto a solid Hip-Hop base. The lyrics are also very representative of Britney and her image at the time, which included a lot of ***, divinity and glamour.

The song definitely gets a bad reputation due to the R. Kelly controversy surrounding it, the now tainted music video, and the fact that it showcased Britney being very hypersexualized, which left many feeling uncomfortable. If anything, it is one of her more vulgar and exploitive, all up-in-your face tracks.

On the contrary,  yes, she obviously didn’t want to be associated with R. Kelly, as many artists around that time also didn’t want to, but that was due to the fact that he was recently accused and charged of child pornography which had the potential to tarnish Britney’s image and just looked bad overall, which is why she distanced herself from the song and barely mentioned it.

Even with a proper single release, I definitely agree with you that Outrageous would have flopped but only because it wasn’t really radio friendly and the public was getting tired of Britney’s hypersexualized image and media oversaturation. That being said and while BOM and TOMH are stellar songs, they were less radio friendly than Outrageous and they also would have flopped, especially TOMH which was about ************. In fact, Boom Boom was planned to be the fifth single (had she not broken her knee) and that was probably one of the last couple of tracks on the album which wasn’t released yet, that was slightly more radio friendly than the rest.

She was actually asked about it (5:10)

Oh i totally forgot about that! Thanks for posting.

I knew she didn't want it to be a single at all but she sounds like she was forced to work with him in here.

(still a great song no matter what....but some lyrics like being on tour and *** sounds insanely creepy now)

I know it sounds bad, but I've never really cared that much about lyrics. Being a bit CKney, I think a song is just a song :idkney:

I've never done anything in my life, like taking a decision or the way I behave or think, based on the lyrics of the music I listen to. I never find advise, or poetry, nor I care about if the songs are personal to the artist or autobiographical, but that's me. I've learned through the years that most people really give too much importance to the lyrics so I kinda get why some would find it offensive (I think T.I.'s part in Tik Tik Boom is so much worse, yet I prefer TTB anyway)

That being said, the reason why I don't like Outrageous that much (I can tolerate it once I'm listening to it) is first of all, its sound. It might have that arabic influence that might have been fresh in 2003, but a few years later it started to sound dated af. It sounds boring, it sounds empty. It's like it's lacking punch, like a stronger beat. And it's kinda how I feel about Slave, the instrumental of Slave sounds very dated nowadays, but Slave has such a nice melody that it can be reworked and be brought to the present, like they did with POM or any live arrangement they've done over the years. Outrageous, you can't do much about it.

Now, I don't care about the meaning or the message of the lyrics itself, but the only way I care about them is in the sound they produce, if that makes any sense. There are repetitive lyrics, that create a certain flow that sounds nice, like "womanizer, woma-womanizer, you're a womanize- oh, womanizer oh. You're a womanizer, baby" that's catchy af for some reason.

But "OUTRAGEOUS, blah blah blah, OUTRAGEOUS, blah blah blah, OUTRAGEOUS...." x1000  can get very annoying if you're really not in the mood.

I think the bridge is the best part of the song "I just wanna be happy..." and it kinda makes it similar to the original Boys, but then goes back to the obnoxious chorus, that is the same from beginning to end, with no change, no excitement, no nothing.

The live performance was hot in OHT, I actually think I like it more than other performances, like Showdown, TOMH, The Hookup, but it's bearable only because they shortened the song. Otherwise it would've been very tiring. So I think it's cool to watch it being performed, or if the music video was completed, I think it would've had a little bit of story with Snoop Dog and the basketball match and the choreo, etc, so we would all be more focused in the things that are going on rather than the song itself. Without a performance or video, I think it's just really boring to just listen to it on your headphones. :yaknow:
