  1. In Hope's of any conciliation between Aaliyah's parents, her brother Rashad and her uncle. Well he shot that on this appearance. He gaslighted Dianne and says she knows more of what went down behind the scenes between Aaliyah and R. Kelly. I'm glad we got her Music, but giving him a platform and to gaslight his own sister and villianize saying what happened to my niece is her mom's fault. I would say on defamation of character Dianne. @Rik @Jordan Miller
  2. Aaliyah’s self titled album is available to stream today for the first time EVER since it’s original release 20 years years ago!! Much of the recording for this album was spread out between 1998-2001, and would serve as Aaliyah’s final album. It was heavily written and produced by Static Major. timbaland would join on for the final tracks. A song produced by Missy Elliot, I Care 4 U, is also on the record and was originally recorded in 1996. Here are my favourite songs: About a month and a half after the original release in 2001, Aaliyah died on August 25th in a tragic plane crash. billboards around NYC, LA, and Detroit, and Tokyo have appeared promoting the album! I recently created an hour long documentary which took me about a year to make. It details the reasons for why you couldn’t stream aaliyahs music, and the impact this has had on her legacy for future generations of music listeners. It includes back to back interviews (with a cameo from various stars at the time including Britney), along with a backdrop detailing the political landscape/world and how music consumption has also changed. I’d really appreciate if you could check it out ✨🤍 @PokemonSpears @Midnight @Jordan Miller @SlayOut @SUCCESSICA IS A QUEEN @boyinthemirror
  3. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=421753525976463&id=100044254578012 Bretman Rocks, is rocking the Roberto Cavalli dress that aaliyah wore at the 2000 VMAS, it's the actual dress she wore where Ricky Martin infamously mispronounced her name when she beat Britney and other females for Try again when she won best female video. @Rik @Jordan Miller
  4. It took such a long time to get this back up but I’m really excited to present to you by documentary on Aaliyah. It took me about a year to make and I interviewed several fans including some exhalers who grew up listening to her music to assist with telling her story. I also get into why people of the last generation and a half are not familiar with much of her discography despite knowing how she looked, etc. Britney makes a few appearances as I seek to showcase pop culture at the time vs now, and illustrate how music consumption has changed. I also make a commentary on the political landscape when Aaliyah died. I get into the 2012 drake/40 album that never happened, JoJo’s story, why we couldn’t stream Blackground’s albums and more! I’d really appreciate if you could check it out @Jordan Miller @Midnight if you could feature this I would really really be grateful!
  5. for the first time in 21 years, fans of Aaliyah will be able to stream the soundtrack of her first ever film, executively produced by Timbaland, and currently distributed by EMPIRE. Romeo Must Die is a film starring Aaliyah and Jet Li that released in the summer of 2000. It was Aaliyah’s debut film. Other stars include rapper DMX. It tells the story of a crime lord’s son that grows aliking to their competitor’s daughter. It is loosely based upon Romeo and Juliet but gravitates towards other themes like martial arts, hip hop, football, and dancing. The film was produced by the Matrix producers, thus why it’s special effects and emphasis on martial arts was compared to that of the Matrix (the sequels of which which Aaliyah was also scheduled to star in prior to her death at the age of 22 in a plane crash in the Bahamas). Here is Aaliyah at the premiere. The film was accompanied by an incredible soundtrack featuring the likes of several popular groups and artists. It was also one of Timbaland‘s first opportunities to produce a variety of artists for a big feature film. Here are some of my favourites from this now classic, but since forgotten soundtrack. try again was the first song to EVER go #1 on the billboard top 100 solely based on airplay. It was the lead single for the soundtrack. Other highlights Destiny’s Child- Perfect Man We At it Again- Timbaland and Magoo Aaliyah- I don’t Wanna I really recommend everyone check this soundtrack out. For years Blackground records and the estate were in disputes over the release of Aaliyah’s music and Blackground’s catalogue. a few weeks ago it was announced that the catalogue, including Aaliyah’s music would be released to streaming services in the order that they were released. This is very exciting for Aaliyah fans despite disputes over whether the artists previously signed to Blackground will receive payment. Romeo Must Die’s soundtrack is available to stream on all streaming platforms today! I get further into her legacy’s disappearance and why people don’t know her music today in a documentary that took me a year to complete. I interview fans as well to talk about the impact and Britney also makes a few guest appearances in the footage I show from around that time. I’d really appreciate if you could check it out too if u have the chance! This video features our very own, @Malibu.D.Luxx💛✨✨✨
  6. REUPLOADED @Jordan Miller @Urbanney @SlayOut @SUCCESSICA IS A QUEEN @Blackout @princessmimi @Midnight Hi everyone! Rik here. Over the last year I have really developed a liking for YouTube videos and documentaries specifically. I used to really enjoy making videos and for the first time in ages, I’ve dedicated much of my time to creating a video on Free Britney, and more recently a video on Aaliyah and her legacy. Even if you aren’t familiar with her, this video will explain why it is and showcase various clips from her life. I also interviewed several fans that grew up listening to her music to truly tell her story as authentically as possible. I was initially in talks to include an author of a very popular Aaliyah novel that recently came out, however things fell through for that. i know you guys are used to me trolling on here but I’d sincerely appreciate if you could all check my documentary out. Due to copyright ive had to make some changes (particularly at the end with explaining the Drake album and Missy/Timbaland drama from back in 2012). I also explain who owns Aaliyah’s name, get into the dispute between her estate (CMG worldwide on behalf of her brother Rashad and mother Diane), and Blackground 2.0 run by her uncle. I also explore how music consumption has changed and how not having Aaliyah’s music on streaming platforms has impacted her legacy. There’s also references to current events that occurred around this time, and for that reason includes footage from 9/11, Total Request Live, Park 106, and the 2001 VMAs. Britney makes a few cameos herself in this! I’m very excited to share you my labour of love, AALIYAH IS COMING: A Legacy Revived, out on YouTube now. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Very special thank you to people who contributed their voices for the interviews! @Malibu.D.Luxx @ohoneey @PokemonSpears @I Always Sing Live @Isla @Urbanney @Lyndsay Luxury @SUCCESSICA IS A QUEEN @SlayOut @Midnight @Blackout2006 @JoJo Online@Jordan Miller @CrazyButItFeelsAllright@ohoney @Slayer @Prachi @princessmimi @dfffff @HardToForgetYa
  7. @Rik @ohoney @Malibu.D.Luxx @Jordan Miller The launch of blackground records 2.0, guess what's coming to platforms. The original jojo albums, that jojo was unsuccessful in getting, libra by Toni Braxton and the highly sought aaliyah albums that her own uncle basically held hostage. I don't know how to feel, the estate of Aaliyah, revealed they will not be making any profits or royalties off this strategic move, so stream the new versions by jojo as I'm sure she won't be making a dime at all from this shady stunt. @boyinthemirror
  8. Hey guys! For the past year I have been working on an Aaliyah documentary which speaks on her life. It is going to be similar to the Britney exhale documentary I made (see below) but far more refined. It will be an hour long. I want to give fans to have a chance to speak on Aaliyah and also showcase why it is that fans from the current generation are unfamiliar with her music (this isn’t the case for other deceased artists). I would also like for this ti be a a sort of time capsule that eventually transitions into the drake album that was scrapped in 2012 and where her masters are currently… and potentially answer the ultimate question of why we can’t stream her music and the impact that has. It will include interviews from Aaliyah during each era, so you get to relive her career from the first album to the plane crash. I also show the funeral and some Easter eggs including Britney, and current events that happened shortly after aaliyahs death. Think of it as a news clip montage. I would like to interview some people and anonymously have them be in my video. I’m looking to target fans who grew up listening to her music who might be able to answer a few of my questions over voice note. I would edit it in such a way that it would be refined and sound natural. Again it’s all anonymous. Ask @BrittonJeanSpears or @Lyndsay Luxury who were in the Britney video💮💮🌺🌺 anyway, please comment or DM me here if you would like to say something in my documentary premiering at the end of this month just in time for the 20th anniversary thank you!!!
  9. Normani paid tribute to Aaliyah’s legacy with the release of her Cardi B assisted single, “Wild Side” and the late singer’s uncle approves of it. Barry Hankerson tells TMZ that his beloved niece “always encouraged young women pursuing their musical and entertainment careers, to achieve their dreams.” Hankerson is the founder of Blackground Records and the man to question the availability of Babygirl’s music catalog on streaming services. He added, “I believe that Aaliyah would be very supportive of a young Black woman that chose to emulate her music and style.” Barry did add that it would’ve been “more honorable” if Normani cleared the sample for “One In a Million” but he seemingly approves of it. “I will not stand in the way of something that brings to light the incredible staying power of Aaliyah. So in that light, wishing Normani well with the song and overall career. God bless. I think Aaliyah would be pleased.” An attorney for Blackground did confirm that Normani didn’t clear the sample but it’s good to know that Aaliyah’s uncle approves and so does the original producer, Timbaland, who posted a reaction video praising the record. I love Normani, but not asking the family & producer of a famous late singer's song is in bad form. I'm happy they are okay with it, but she did Team Aaliyah dirty-no respect. BUT also, it makes me wonder if she never even knew it was an Aaliyah sample on the track, hence making her a fake fan. Now I'm curious if they sue her for copyright or what? Anyways, stream and support our fave Fifth Harmony member, Normani!
  10. Barry Hankerson is suing Normani for all her money's worth cos she and her team illegally sampled one in a million on her critically acclaimed duet with Cardi B on wild side, and unless it's removed, as Barry said, Aaliyah's music can't be sampled unless it's 100 profits from songwriters even if it's the track has original lyrics. Barry is willing to take her to court to ban the track.
  11. Aaliyah's estate says they've regained control over her YouTube account and is teasing her digital resurgence in the new year. I'm perched but also this feels a little weird. Thoughts, Exhale?
  12. The estate of the R&B icon Aaliyah has officially announced that her music is finally coming to streaming platforms. "To our loyal fans: We are excited to announce that communication has commenced between the estate and various record labels about the status of Aaliyah's music catalog, as well as its availability on streaming platforms in the near future," the statement read. "Thank you for your continued love and support. More updates to come!" Only available is the now very controversial "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number" produced by disgraced R. Kelly. The original Timbaland sound, which birthed Justin Timberlake and introduced us to Missy, is coming. I'll post the greatest production that Timbaland and Missy did for baby girl below. Aaliyah tragically died on August 25th, 2001. She would probably leave you alone. She would probably cut you off from her phone. I bet you she would be glad that you were gone. The only song to debut at #1 in the US based off the radio airplay alone. No other song has been able to do this.
  13. Lately I've been thinking about some of my favorite movies featuring great performances from Black pop stars. Obviously the late, great Whitney Houston comes to mind right away. The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife. Whitney wowed us as a leading lady in The Bodyguard and her performance broke barriers at the time. Even though she faced criticism from film critics, it's safe to say some of her movies have undoubtedly stood the test of time. Mariah has been cast in some very impressive dramatic roles in Lee Daniels films Precious and The Butler. Justice For Glitter! Beyonce in Dreamgirls and The Lion King. Janet Jackson (Miss Jackson if you're nasty) in Poetic Justice Diana Ross, Janelle Monae, Aaliyah, Will Smith. The list goes on... I'm curious what some of your fave crossover performances are. Let's discuss!
