Sam and Normani are being sued over their duet 'Dancing With a Stranger.' The complaint filed by songwriters Vincent, Christopher Miranda and Rosco Banlaoi at the Los Angeles federal court, allege Sam and Normani plagiarized elements of Jordan Vincent's 2017 song "Dancing With Strangers." "The hook/chorus in both songs — the most significant part and artistic aspect of these works — contains the lyrics 'dancing with a stranger' being sung over a nearly identical melody and musical composition. Both videos consist of a girl performing interpretive dance alone in a minimalist studio, interspersed with shots of the male vocalist. A girl dancing alone is not an obvious visual theme for a music video titled 'Dancing With a Stranger,' tending to dispel any notion that this similarity is a coincidence. When the extraordinary musical similarity between the songs is also factored in, it becomes even more apparent that it is impossible that the infringing composition and sound recording were independently created."

“People underestimate how hard it is and how much effort we put into one project, one body of work. And coming out of a girl group, there was a lot that I hard to figure out about myself and fears that I had to deal with head on,” she said. “I was always so safe being in a girl group. I remember my mom when I was little, she was like, ‘Why do you want to be in a girl group so bad?’ Is it so you can hide?’ And I think that that was pretty much the answer. But God had other plans for me and by His faithfulness and His grace, He’s really, really kept me.” Serving Famos surprise

Normani says "Motivation" had an impact on the music scene. "I didn't understand the impact that it had culturally and how much it created a shift in terms of what people decided that they were going to begin to create afterwards," she tells Allure in a new interview. Normani paid tribute to Aaliyah’s legacy with the release of her Cardi B assisted single, “Wild Side” and the late singer’s uncle approves of it. Barry Hankerson tells TMZ that his beloved niece “always encouraged young women pursuing their musical and entertainment careers, to achieve their dreams.” Hankerson is the founder of Blackground Records and the man to question the availability of Babygirl’s music catalog on streaming services. He added, “I believe that Aaliyah would be very supportive of a young Black woman that chose to emulate her music and style.” Barry did add that it would’ve been “more honorable” if Normani cleared the sample for “One In a Million” but he seemingly approves of it. “I will not stand in the way of something that brings to light the incredible staying power of Aaliyah. So in that light, wishing Normani well with the song and overall career. God bless. I think Aaliyah would be pleased.” An attorney for Blackground did confirm that Normani didn’t clear the sample but it’s good to know that Aaliyah’s uncle approves and so does the original producer, Timbaland, who posted a reaction video praising the record. I love Normani, but not asking the family & producer of a famous late singer's song is in bad form. I'm happy they are okay with it, but she did Team Aaliyah dirty-no respect. BUT also, it makes me wonder if she never even knew it was an Aaliyah sample on the track, hence making her a fake fan. Now I'm curious if they sue her for copyright or what? Anyways, stream and support our fave Fifth Harmony member, Normani!

Barry Hankerson is suing Normani for all her money's worth cos she and her team illegally sampled one in a million on her critically acclaimed duet with Cardi B on wild side, and unless it's removed, as Barry said, Aaliyah's music can't be sampled unless it's 100 profits from songwriters even if it's the track has original lyrics. Barry is willing to take her to court to ban the track.

This isn't new music news so feel free to delete this post if it doesn't make sense for this forum... I recently posted about being a fan of Camila, but I'm also a HUGE fan of Normani and was curious to know who else here is a fan. Ever since she performed Love Lies on the BBMA's and released the song Waves, I realized how much potential she has! I was mesmerized the first time I saw her perform on the BBMA's. The girl has a beautiful voice and is an insanely talented dancer. People compare her to Beyonce, but I don't really see it... I feel like Normani is a way better technical dancer and the choreographed routines she performs in music videos and during concerts are a lot more complex. Anyways, I'm curious to know who else here is a Normani fan and if so what's your favorite song/ video/ performance/ etc. What direction do you hope she goes with her music sound-wise? Personally, I hope she goes more in the R&B direction and less in the Pop direction. Here some of my fav moments from her if y'all care to check them out!
