“I’ve been in this industry for eight years and I’ve sold over 165 million records and my record company is saying I can’t release [the song] unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.” 😳

Record labels have literally lost their **** over tiktok, like calm the FU*K down already. Yes it's the most popular platform, NO IT IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO SUCCEED.

This is what happens when 90% of marketing managers in all the companies are people of 45 and up, they lose their **** over the smallest things :gloria_falling_stairs_trip:

calm down, its not like this will affect your life. I honestly think this is a PR stunt to make people start a conversation on twitter.

I think using Tik Tok as a marketing scheme for NEW artists is a good thing, but Halsey is a successful, established artist. She doesn’t need a viral trend to push her music. Tik Tok really helped push Doja onto the mainstream, but she has kept the ball moving and doesn’t rely on Tik Tok anymore. Record labels need to be more strategic when handling different artists. What works for one, doesn’t mean it’ll work for all.

I’ve never been a Halsey fan, but I’ll admit she’s got a point. The music industry is extremely corrupt and doesn’t care at all about the art and only cares about the potential for profit. Just imagine the amount of overlooked talent that’s out there that we will probably never hear about because they’re not considered “marketable” or because they won’t bow down and submit to label demands.

I hope she’s able to release her music soon! I bet she has tons of fans who would love to hear something new from her! Hopefully more artists start to speak out on this as well!!

Her and Chloe Bailey are extremely brave for speaking so candidly about this. Hopefully other artists will follow suit!

Let's be real though, the only major hits these days are all songs that do well on TikTok, so maybe her label has a point.

Does every song ever released need to be a “major hit”? There should be space for an artist to release something experimental, no? If a song is good, people will discover it sooner or later.

And even if a song doesn’t ever go on to crack the hot 100, it can still be considered a good song that influences and inspires people. But as we know - the labels only care about raising their share prices and lining their CEO’s wallets…

No I'm just in marketing for 10 years now and I have a very personal connection to what she said. Tiktok became a bandwagon that most marketing specialists want to jump on panically, but they have actually ignored it for years (when they were actually supposed to hop onto it). So now they're all in the panic mode making dumb and irrational decision for the sake of making it on tiktok.

All that happened is someone's teenager mentioned how popular it is and they all jumped on the bandwagon. The entertainment industry is so lazy and uninspired when it comes to marketing.

Instead of figuring out what works for an artist, or what they're interested in, it's a cookie cutter plan. They do everything now....and see what sticks🤦

Taylor has been doing it since day one.

Halsey has a point, but 165 million records? As in, singles? Counting her collabs? I don't get it.

Assuming she’s counting “closer” with the chainsmokers? But I think that single sold 10m in the US. So many she means world wide :beynah_beyonce_talking_telling_preaching:

165 million records? :wtfdidusay_wth_what_huh_again_who_confused_looking_around:

She hasnt even had that much hits or albums!

Irregardless,

its a shame that she's not allowed to release song unless it goes viral on Tik Tok.

How the heck is her music supposed to go viral if they dont even release it?

Ugh im so glad im not a famous singer cause then i'd have to deal with this

Halsey used to be really cool during the Badlands Era, but then she became too “woke” and played the victim constantly. It got really exhausting for the public.
She used to rant about being authentic, but then she got a ton of plastic surgery and she now looks like the girls she used to call out in her songs for being “fake.”
Everything about Halsey feels so fake now.
