‘Midnights’ by Taylor Swift is now challenging Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ (1.31M) for second-biggest sales week for a female album in US history

Recommended Posts

Oops didn't need any of the antics and marketing strategies Taylor uses these days, and it couldn't rely on any streaming or radio play.

Oops was 1.3 million people who had been waiting for the album and literally leaving their house, going to a record store and spend their allowance or after-school-job-paycheck to go get a physical album within the first few days of the release.

I live in europe and i have not met any single Taylor fan yet. I do not hear/see people talking about anything related to Taylor swift, not even during her peak years.

Either I am surronded by people who do not care about taylor or she is very popular only in the usa.

i did not even know she was releasing an album.

Britney will always hold the record IMO. Like every one has said, it meant something bigger back then selling physical albums.

Taylor who sings pretty much the same thing every album. The GP love her because well she’s a basic white girl who they can “relate “ too. Never saw the appeal in her except when she was a country artist. Now it’s pathetic.

Literally what I think :tiffhair_miss_ms_new_york_ny_fix_hair_nodding_listening: Same thing with Adele, ''classy, white woman'' image. For example Britney is way too controversial for general public to support her music like that :tiffhair_miss_ms_new_york_ny_fix_hair_nodding_listening:

+ Both Tay and Adele have their tactics to sell more :tiffhair_miss_ms_new_york_ny_fix_hair_nodding_listening:

To be honest, I am not that impressed by breaking records these days anymore since streaming and all that. People used to go out to the store to buy an actual album. Now people just click on something at home.

Same with movies. A movie ticket is so much more expensive than back in the day. Inflation adjusted so many movies who claim most succesfull simply aren’t and old movies actually rank way higher in box office succes.

I don’t see modern day albums who sell more than Britneys Oops as actually more sucessfull.
