She wrote it to tell her fans she was going to be a mannequin on stage, expressionless, even if they’re screaming and crying because at the time, she didn’t want to go back on stage. But her team made her.

I love it idk why but it just screams Britney Spears, like I can't imagine anyone else having Mannequin as their song. I think it could've been a single tbh. And the choreo is fire yes.

I always struggled to see why this song was so polarising, but that's probably just bias on my part. I always enjoyed Mannequin and was sad it was never a single, just because it sounded so experimental, was perfectly ready for a remix involving a rapper (if it went that far) and it was a reference to her lack of emotion in relation to just... everything. I feel like it would be more apt now if the lyrics delved even further into how she basically became just that - a mannequin for show. 

Continue to feel like it was a song that got wasted on that album. Sad.

I love Mannequin! It's very unique and full of personality. I love that Britney co-wrote it and it's interesting that it's about her being upset and was written at the beginning of the conservatorship. Knowing what we know now, I'm surprised her team even allowed it to be on the album because it's actually Britney's feelings. That makes it more special now.
