Brandy was called the vocal bible for a reason, no shade to Monica, but she was never gonna be whitney's successor 

 

Unfortunately two events out of Brandy's career killed her career..

 

#1 faking a marriage to keep her role model status while being pregnant..

 

When the father of their daughter revealed  they were never married that shattered her flawless image, even though Brandy said she should have been honest about it, but her momager though treats ray j as a saint despite playing a role in Kim Kardashian rise to fame, forced Brandy to lie..

 

Then the car accident which the other driver was found ar faulty, and Brandy was found innocent by cops, that actually led to lawsuits and a massive  backlash by the public, which Has affected brandy and ruined her image completely..

 

She still maintains her fan base but sadly the general public really looks down on her for things that were out of her control..

It’s hard to pick just one artist for each year let along half a decade. There are other pop artists who had more success like JLo in 2001 - 2002, Alicia Keys in 2003, Gwen and Mariah in 2004-2005, Nelly Furtado in 2006, Amy Winehouse in 2007-2008. You get the idea.
