20 years ago today, Britney COMPLETED the first ever trinity with the release of her record setting third studio album titled BRITNEY. According to her, she picked this title because "it's more me" and did she lie?

• Europe: November 5, 2001
• United States and Canada: November 6, 2001

Never has a Britney record been so bipolar. The record is a mix of sultry smexy R&B bops via lead single I'm a Slave 4 U and underrated disco pop gems like Anticipating. The album pretty much switches from smexy and sweet, and then have edgy and emotional moments. The record truly reflects BRITNEY SPEARS, Pop Princess, at her core... bad girl, good girl.

The album is a transitional record for Britney. It's the first record she made where she co-wrote more than half of the album. At the time, she said that she is truly proud of this record because she had a lot more creative control than with her previous two records. We all know, B2 was just handed to her and recorded in 2 weeks and it went by that fast, she didn't have time to really pick the songs. The album also was her first record to feature an adult sound and image with the lead single and Boys.

The album's mission statement: "i'm not a girl, not yet a woman"

That's track 4 for all you basic bieches.

FIRST FEMALE ARTIST IN SOUNDSCAN HISTORY TO HAVE HER FIRST 3 ALBUMS DEBUT AT #1

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart with 745,750 copies sold on it's first week in the US. This also earned her the second highest debut sales for an album in 2001, behind *NSYNC's Celebrity.

The album also went to #1 in Canada, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. TASTE!

The album has accumulated sales of 10.2 million worldwide. When will your faves. 

The record also earned her two (2) Grammy Nominations in 2002

• Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Overprotected
• Best Pop Vocal Album

It is her last LP to be nominated for a Grammy.

In 2019, the album was first released as vinyl exclusive to Urban Outfitters, and in 2020 it got re-released by the same store in cassette format.

The album spawned the most singles and music videos across all 9 studio albums.

The release of its singles is the most strategic and diverse in her entire career. 2001 and 2002 really was HER PEAK and there are 7 reasons why.

Directed by the industry's biggest names like Francis Lawrence, Wayne Isham, Billie Woodruff, Chris Applebaum, and Dave Meyers.

The lead single, I'm a Slave 4 U.

The second international single, Overprotected.

The second US single / third international single, I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.

The third US and Canadian single, Overprotected (The Darkchild Remix).

The fourth international single, I Love Rock 'n' Roll.

The fourth US single / fifth international single, Boys (The Co-Ed Remix) featuring Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D.

The sixth single exclusively released in France, Brazil and the Philippines, Anticipating.

The record also ties in with Britney's first major motion picture, Crossroads. 

The movie featured songs from the album like Overprotected, I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, and I Love Rock 'n' Roll.

The original concept for the album (then titled Shock Your Mind) featured a more mature sound and some of the songs were part of the soundtrack for the movie. Ultimately, they decided to merge the two projects, thus creating this mega masterpiece record that's both a proper studio album and a soundtrack all in one. When will your faves.

To support the album, Britney embarked on her Dream Within a Dream World Tour and was immortalized into video format as Britney Spears Live from Las Vegas.

The record also has another DVD tie-in via Britney: The Videos. The first and only time a Britney album had two (2) DVDs.

Anyway, let's celebrate this beautiful album and its iconic era. This was Britney's transition to a more mature sound and every song on it is a bop  If I could be anyone in this world I would be 2001ney, she was the most perfect human being ever

To think this album used to be one of my least favorites, nowadays it's my second Truly an iconic era, and the peak of her fame.

I think the Britney album is part of my trinity alongside In The Zone and Blackout. I cannot skip a single song. The era is just plainly fantastic! Can only say positive things about it.

Overprotected remains her best song, what a timeless masterpiece.

So this album is her best one by default.

It's my second or third favorite album.

I really love how it goes from **** to cheesy and the wide variety of genres and rhythms and colors that it has.

Overprotected definitely the best song of the album

And even though Dark Knight didn't like it, Let Me Be is a gem

the album that paved the way for h0ez like Xxxtina, Successica, Miley, Whisperlena, Demi, Ariana, to have smoother transition from teeny bubblegum pop basic beeches to powerful and ****** women. they should bow in respect

10M album sales? she did that even with the underwhelmimg success of the singles. while these twitter trolls boasting how their faves can sell *** # of digital downloads of a SINGLE and *** # of streams

and criminal as it is, the LAST Britney album to be Grammy-nominated, and not even for AOTY?! well Grammys are sheet anyways
