Her team experimenting with different ways to have her sound like she's singing live. At this point in her career, Britney still didn't have as bad a reputation for lip-synching that she does today. "She's" (the vocals) are not out of key, the entire song is pitched down, including the music. Some people think it's live since it sounds like her natural deep voice, so her team clearly had a good strategy. Some people also believe the entire OIDIA tour wasn't pre-recorded. ;)

@Fabricio Alex here let me explain.  This is the key that she performs the song in when she actually sings live, so this is the key that the band learned to play the song in. When they dubbed the performance for the DVD, they pitched the studio vocal down instead of using live or prerecorded vocals.
 

So everything is in the proper key meaning the singing and the music are both matched. But since the voice was pitched down significantly it is distorted to sound deeper

I never understood why the vocals of the song were deepened to the point of almost sounding like a man.

Did they really think people would be dumb enough to believe she's "singing live" with deeper CD vocals?

 

Why didnt she just at least sing this song live?

It was the only ballad of the show and she was just LITERALLY STANDING IN ONE PLACE THE ENTIRE TIME!

I just think she didnt give af about live vocals anymore and just completely fell into lipsyncing during this era.

I remember being surprised too when I first watch the DVD. It's obvious they pitched down her voice and they did it way too hard. It almost sounds like these fan made "male version" you can found on youtube lol
