Attardé is short for attardé mental.

it means a disabled person. Don't let her fool u.

No one says Attardé mental (********) tho :whitney:

It's an insult, just like Débilité mentale. (Dumb mental disease) :whitney:

for people who don't know French, look up "attardé" on Google images. Other related words are "Trisomic" and "Autist"

I think I'm Ready Now knows "********" is a health issue. :byebitch:

Look up Débile (Dumb) on google images

******** is a freakin insult here, just like Dumb, although both were used for disabled people :byebitch:

C'est pas en tapant un mot sur google images que t'auras sa signification. Si t'as un dico chez toi, cherche le mot attardé, tu verras que sa connotation a complétement changé tout comme le mot "idiot" qui à l'époque voulait dire "handicapé mental" (https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/idiotie lis le 1. )

sweetie, people in the US also use ******** for people who are stupid. what u're doing isn't helping her. :whitney: US online dictionaries also mention "stupid" and "dumb" for ********. The truth is that the PURPOSE of the word is that it's used for mentally disabled people. Just like attardé is used for those people in French.

everything else is derived from the first meaning. did u try googling "attardé" like i told u? yeah go do it.

it's just a habit to say "attardé" instead of "attardé mental" :whitney: the word is for people who are disabled. :whitney:

Sweetie, no one call them like that (attardé mental) unless they want to insult them :whitney:

So now we shouldn't use the word "débile" too because of freaking pictures???

tu sais très bien que par "attardé" on veut dire "attardé mental" alors arrête de faire la conne. Quand tu tapes "********" tu as aussi "stupid" et "dumb". C'est juste des sens dérivés.

c'est pas une coïncidence le fait qu'on traîte une personne saute par "attardé". c'est en relation à la condition mentale qui les rend moins performants. :whitney:

The difference is that "débile" is not used in the Psychology field to refer to mentally disabled people, unlike "attardé".

Work that ******* brain. :tiffcackle:

but that doesn't take away the fact that it still has an offensive meaning, that it is also used to describe mentally disabled people, @buttonconfirms this.

and it was the ******** word ghat sparked outrage here, not its French translation.

On les appelle des attardés mentaux oui. C'est un terme professionnel. Ce qui est rude and offensive c'est que tu l'as utilisé pour insulter quelqu'un qui n'est PAS attardé. :whitney:

what a coincidence that the word used in a PROFESSIONAL field to refer to mentally disabled people (attardé) is used to insult someone by @I Think I'm Ready Now :tiffcackle:

Attardé is not offensive, we use it on a daily basis, and that's the correct translation of that word :beynah:

So I guess I'll say

yup it's used to refer to mentally disabled people. "un attardé" is someone who suffers that health condition.

It's OK to use it to insult someone else tho! :whitney:
