it's just a habit to say "attardé" instead of "attardé mental" the word is for people who are disabled.

sweetie, people in the US also use ******** for people who are stupid. what u're doing isn't helping her. US online dictionaries also mention "stupid" and "dumb" for ********. The truth is that the PURPOSE of the word is that it's used for mentally disabled people. Just like attardé is used for those people in French.

tu sais très bien que par "attardé" on veut dire "attardé mental" alors arrête de faire la conne. Quand tu tapes "********" tu as aussi "stupid" et "dumb". C'est juste des sens dérivés.

c'est pas une coïncidence le fait qu'on traîte une personne saute par "attardé". c'est en relation à la condition mentale qui les rend moins performants.

The difference is that "débile" is not used in the Psychology field to refer to mentally disabled people, unlike "attardé".

but that doesn't take away the fact that it still has an offensive meaning, that it is also used to describe mentally disabled people, @buttonconfirms this.

yup it's used to refer to mentally disabled people. "un attardé" is someone who suffers that health condition.

It's OK to use it to insult someone else tho!
