8 pages because of the use of the word ********?

Britney herself called her ******** in a lot of tv appearences before, I think it can be used as "stupid"

maybe I'm wrong though english is not my first language :calculating:

English is not my first language as well, but in german it is the same, one word für disabled people and yeah they just use it also for stupid.

I think in english it is the same? :calculating:

It definitely is offensive, don’t let anyone make you think otherwise.

Yes. And you just disproved @I Think I'm Ready Now’s dumb “different culture” argument :whitney:

English : ******** = common word for disabled, offensive as an insult

French : ******** = never used for disabled, but widely used as an insult

Cultural difference, now move on :whitney:

Bah pas en France en tout cas, un médecin pourrait être poursuivi en justice s'il utilisait ce mot.

Du coup il faudrait bannir les mots "idiot" "débile" et tous les autres insultes tirées du lexique de la médecine et des handicaps mentaux? Ca ne peut pas se faire et on ne peut pas juger les gens pour cela.

The fact that u think that using attardé is ok even though it's a reference to people having "un ****** mental" aka "a mental retardation". it's not even a subtle word that has a different letters/root :whitney:

Get help sis :whitney:

Alright i see, I'm just used to hearing attardé a lot from French-speaking doctors.

I'll just say that everyone else handled the issue better than France by condemning the use of the psychology term as an insult instead of fleeing and abandoning the use of said word in their work. :whitney: I guarantee that i've heard plenty of times "handicapé" used as an insult. :whitney:

It still shocks me that "attardé" is used casually since it's so close to that certain family of words. (****** mental  ect) :whitney:

Not only France, every French-speaking country in Europe + Québec. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of languages (a German exhaler told me it was the same in his language).

So do I except doctors and scientists use that word in their work, and I'm against using it as an insult.

You keep saying that. It’s used as “stupid” and “dumb”.

But the majority of Americans that say it also use it that way. And it’s wrong here too. It’s actually used the same way in your country as my country, but we have the common decency to tell people it’s wrong :whitney:

The word is used by everyone, its a synonym of stupid and does not make us think about disabled people :whitney:

i just hope u 2 are being sincere and not just helping each other out of this thread. and No don't speak for every French speaking country in Europe. I mean the case in France makes sense if i go by ur claims that attardé isn't used in the psychology field, dunno about german.

Yes, just like "********" was handled. Keep refering to ACTUAL ******** people as "********" and prohibit the usage of the word with negative connotations/as an insult. thats how it should be. Not abandon the word and jump to another one. :whitney:

This. I can't believe its went on for 9 pages. Its not a difficult concept, its offensive ANYWHERE, just don't use that language. But they probably don't care that its offensive toward disabled persons :whitney:
