David LaChapelle: ‘There aren’t people like Britney and Paris Hilton in the zeitgeist anymore’

LaChapelle doesn’t regularly photograph celebrities anymore...

 

He thinks back to many of the stars he photographed 20 years ago. “Britney and Paris were trailblazers – we don’t have people like that in the zeitgeist anymore. There was nobody like those women. There wasn’t a Lil’ Kim before Lil’ Kim. There wasn’t a Paris Hilton before Paris Hilton. There weren’t people in the world in such a way before.”

The era of the superstar as we know it is over.

Social media has alot to do with that.

I loved Paris of that time. However she was not the first, but more so a really rebellious reboot of the socialite. 
 

People with notable names from notable families were the first celebrities, long before entertainers.

Meh. Britney has way bigger photoshoots, and thank God art moves forward. Who wants to see the same thing redone over and over again? 2Pac photoshoot is a classic, though.
