It's a metaphorical egg. It's supposed to represent the fake relationship they have. The egg started out as a real egg, but when it was served to him it turned into a fake egg. In Britney's eyes she was serving a real egg because to her the relationship was real, but in her ex's eyes he doesn't even see that it's an egg. I doubt he even looks down at it which is why it looks so fake and artificial. He just sees it the same way he sees his relationship with Britney which is something that resembles something real but isn't. The "food" resembles an egg, but in reality it isn't really an egg (to him). Her mind :bedtime_britney_book_Reading:

Blimey, I just saw a square egg! I am lacking in imagination and the ability to interpret a symbol in egg form.
