This Day in Pop: 'I am Britney Jean' airs on E in 2013 (Deceber 22)

On December 22, 2013, I am Britney Jean aired on E channel. It was a documentary about the preparations for Britney's then upcoming Las Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me, as well as the release of Britney Jean, the listening party, promo appearances and the filming of its two music videos, Work ***** and Perfume, as well as a some sneak peeks into her family life.

It makes me sad seeing all her handlers being "nice" to her and her responding in a nice way but the whole time she actually has no choice and has been forced to do this. She just hopes if she fakes it then they'll let her out. And they never do

I remember being excited for this. She looked so excited and happy about the Vegas show. I wish there was actual BJ promo, though, besides music videos and the MTV special.

to be fair she had also released "I am the Femme Fatale" in 2011, though I suppose the other title is still older, but it's just such a generic phrase anyways

Watching the rehearsals here don't match with the actual residency, like so disappointing, these choreographers were bad.

But Britney looked happy, I wonder if she really was in those moments

It's sad, because she actually seemed so happy in this doc and came across well. It was also interesting to see the preparations for Piece Of Me and what songs almost made it to the setlist.

I absolutely adore this little doc! It’s such a fun moment!  

And I remember that I so through an episode of the Kardashians cuz it aired in E right before the premiere. The online time I’ve ever watched that show..

Honestly I loved this documentary. So sad now knowing what it was like behind the scenes.

Honestly, this documentary is sad to me. It's great seeing the aspects of Britney putting a show together, and the parts of her with her boys are sweet, but knowing what we know it just feels so exploitative and like it wasn't enough they were forcing her to do all this work, they were making her pretend to be happy about it, and even showing how they push her... As a documentary it feels far more structured and manufactured than FTR, and somehow her loneliness feels more present...

The cringiest moment of this was when Britney was making the ‘Perfume’ video and there was a kissing scene and her dad was staring at her and wanting to be on set while it was being filmed.

She asked for him to be removed but he refused

What about when the show director asks Britney "I just wanna get inside your head for a little while and figure out the kind of show you want to create" and the camera goes to Larry and Robin looking horrified like this as if Britney was going to say some out of this world thing or something

I loved this doc. I really enjoy the BTS and making of her concerts. I hope she does more in the future.

really enjoyed this at the time because she was so passionate and seemed in control. also, the dance rehearsals were amazing. so sad to know what was really going on behind the scenes. just makes me respect her even more for pushing through and trying to make a great show for us fans.
