Halle looks and sounds amazing! At least based on this tiny clip her voice is way better for this than Emma Watson as live-action Belle.

Halle has fins on her tail and she also has the fins at the end but hers show more than two. It looks more futuristic. I suspect the official movie will have her with more vibrant red hair when she’s coming out of the water at the end with the sparkly dress and has legs like in the original. It will be more of an homage type of moment I feel like. I don’t think Disney wanted a vibrant red because they absolutely easily could have… We will just have to wait and see!

I’ve watched TLM for over 30 years, it was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema. When it was first announced I was upset that Halle was cast as Ariel, I’ll admit I felt like my favorite cartoon was now just a vehicle for Disney to appear diverse and ‘woke’ for the sake of being so. 

However! After hearing Halle sing, I think it’s obvious why she was cast. Not only does she sound eerily similar to the original, her features are very Disney princess like and I think of all people I’ve seen considered for the role she bar far is the best suited. I think she’s gonna do amazing and I can’t wait to see it! I know it’s hard to see a familiar character so many have cherished look so different for this iteration, but it takes nothing away from the original and is simply a bonus.
Also seeing how so many little black girls are reacting to the trailer online, it’s been way overdue for those little girls to have someone to look up to. How could anyone want to take that away from them? We’re all grown adults, let the kids enjoy this next go around, it’s for them. Maybe they will cherish this version as much as we have cherished the original.
