This Day in Pop: Britney releases (You Drive Me) Crazy single in 1999 (August 21)

On August 21, 1999 Britney Spears released (You Drive Me) Crazy as the third single off her debut album ...Baby One More Time. It was a different version from that on the album, "The Stop! Remix" which was also featured in the soundtrack of the movie Drive Me Crazy, so the single was released as a remix package. I'll Never Stop Loving You was its side B.

It was written and produced by Max Martin, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger with additional writing by Jörgen Elofsson and remix by Martin and Rami Yacoub. The song peaked at #10 on the BBH100 and it went #1 in Belgium and Iceland.

 

 

The song has been performed live in many occasions on TV shows including the MTV Europe Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards, and since her very first tour, The Hair Zone Mall Tour, as well as her following five tours: ...Baby One More Time Tour, Crazy 2k Tour, Oops!... I Did It Again Tour, Dream Within a Dream Tour and The Onyx Hotel Tour. It was also included on her Britney: Piece of Me residency in Las Vegas and derivative tours, including the promotional performances across different music festivals in 2016.

 I remember thinking "The Stop" is a person/artist/band when I was younger. 

 I love both versions of crazy, for me it's up there with BOMT/OOPS with the most iconic moments of her very early career

BOMT is iconic and no other 16 years old would be able to do that  but crazy is perfect, has a happy vibe, has so much attitude, she dances so much, she looks perfect on it  It goes by so fast, so damn good! its one of my fave vidoes ever

Btw i cant believe Sometimes has more views than this iconic video

Unpopular opinion, but I think I prefer this over BOMT (which is still a classic don’t get me wrong, but yeah). I’ve been listening to this song SO MUCH recently.
