I haven’t chart checked for years. With the advent of streaming, it’s irrelevant. Once upon a time you would only go out and buy a single (or download) if you truly loved the songs. Now you can listen to whatever you want, when you want, and support your favourite artists (even if you don’t like the song) by just constantly streaming. It used to be that buying multiple copies still only counted as one sale. I know I personally usually stream every song on Spotify’s new music Friday list to see if I like anything. That’s classed as one sale for each of those songs, some which are trash.

Id rather have a viral hit these days then a #1.
