  1. On July 27, 2009, Britney Spears released an animated music video for Kill the Lights. On February 10, 2009, a fan fiction contest was launched on britney.com. The winner of the contest would get to see their story becoming a plot for an official music video of any song from the Circus album. Later, the winner of the contest was announced. It was Eliana Moyano from Argentina, who picked Kill the Lights and this was her entry: On May 18, we got a sneak peek of the video The video was directed by PUNY and was released for purchase via iTunes on September 4, 2009. The video only features about half of the song, and though some fans consider it the continuation of Break the Ice (which also got an animated video) this relationship was never confirmed. Kill the Lights was not released as an official single, but it was included in the promotional CD that came with the perfume Circus Fantasy released later in the year, along with Circus (Junior Vasquez Club Circus Mix).
  2. On March 12, 2009, Britney Spears released the If U Seek Amy video, the third one to promote her Circus album. It was filmed in February and was directed by Jake Nava, who had already worked with her in 2004 for the My Prerogative music video. The video starts with a parody of news anchor Megyn Kelly, who criticized the double meaning in the lyrics of the song when it was first sent to radio in January, after being chosen as the next single by the fans on an online poll. Megyn Kelly seemed to be thrilled about the homage In 2018, Kristina Mitchell, the actress that played the reporter, talked to Yahoo about her experience on the IUSA video. After the jab at Fox News, we skip to Britney waking up from what seems to have been a super fun slumber party She's wearing a corset and black, wet-look leggins (which could be replicated, according to her stylist for the shoot David Thomas, by getting them at American Apparel and "just fold them in half and then you put slits in it, but you don't slit it where your knees are") as well as a pair of red Louboutin shoes, that weren't on sale to the public until a month later. After a dance sequence in the living room accompanied by her cheerleader dancers, Britney puts on a more conservative outfit, reminiscent of a 50's housewife, a short blond wig, and grabs a baked apple pie as she prepares to exit the house, where she's joined by her husband and two children (including a little girl dressed up in the schoolgirl outfit from ...Baby One More Time) to greet the media that's waiting for her outside. She blows a kiss to the camera and then we see the news reporter again finishing with the classic tagline "doesn't make any sense, does it?" MTV news described it as an amalgamation of all the different moments from her career up to that point, from the BOMT reference, the ***iness of Toxic and Womanizer, the shot style from Everytime, the panties reference from Piece of Me. We could also add that the news anchor, though it was clearly a parody of Megyn Kelly's recent statements, is also reminiscent of the Overprotected (Darkchild Remix) video intro. The video hit 100M views on her official YouTube channel on May 2020 and it was upgraded to "HD" just one day before its anniversary. The video reached #7 on the 2009's yearly Top 100 aired by MTV Latin America. Related:
  3. On March 10, 2009, Britney Spears released If U Seek Amy, the third single off her sixth studio album Circus. It was written and produced by Max Martin, with additional writing by Shellback, Savan Kotecha and Alexander Kronlund. The song talks about looking for a girl named Amy who is nowhere to be found, though its title suggest a different meaning when it's rapidly pronounced during the chorus. So much, that the song received complaints from the Parents Television Council, thus leading radio to air a censored version instead, If U See Amy. Notoriously, Megyn Kelly from Fox News denounced the nature of the lyrics in January; this would be then addressed with a parody in the official music video of the song, which anniversary will be celebrated in a few days. Despite the controversy, the song peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the US Dance Club Songs chart, while hitting #8 on the Mainstream Top 40. It went #1 in Brazil and it was Top 20 in several other countries. If U Seek Amy was chosen as the third single in an online poll on Britney's official website. It was announced in December 2008 as the winner with 26% of the votes, leaving behind Kill the Lights and Out from Under as the closest options. Blur who? The electropop song was the first time Britney collaborated with Max Martin since her third studio album Britney, released in 2001. She talked a little bit about it in an interview in 2008 If U Seek Amy joined the group of many other singles which never received TV promo performances. However, it's been performed live on her Circus Tour in 2009, Femme Fatale Tour in 2011 and it was incorporated to her Piece of Me show in Vegas since the revamp in 2016. In June 2009, a remix EP for the single was released, including remixes by Junior Vasquez, Mike Rizzo, Crookers among others.
  4. On March 03, 2009, The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour kicked off in New Orleans. In order to support her sixth studio album, the Circus Tour would be Britney Spears' "comeback" tour since her Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004, and after a so-called "public breakdown" in 2007. This was her first tour after being placed under a conservatorship in 2008, despite which, she showed to be totally capable of performing complex dance routines, memorize lyrics, interact with props, participate in magic tricks and even being lifted in the air while blindfolded on the back of two aerialists. The tour got two legs in North America, one in Europe and another one in Australia, where it ended in November, after 97 shows and 1.5M in attendance. The Circus Tour grossed $131.8M (around $160M today) becoming the fifth highest grossing tour of 2009 and 16th overall in the decade of the 00's. Choreographer Jamie King did the casting of the dancers and acrobats while Simon Ellis was in charge of the musical direction. The production design was done by Road Rage, developing the big, circular stage with two smaller satellite rings at the sides, all of which resembled an actual three-ring circus, that was built by Tait Towers. A cylindrical screen above the stage was built by Solotech. Despite its name, the setlist actually included more songs from her albums In the Zone and Blackout, rather than Circus. Circus Piece of Me Radar Ooh Ooh Baby / Hot As Ice Boys If U Seek Amy Me Against the Music (Bollywood Remix) Everytime Freakshow Get Naked (I Got a Plan) Breathe on Me / Touch of My Hand Do Somethin' I'm a Slave 4 U Toxic ...Baby One More Time Womanizer Besides these, the opening night she covered Duffy's I'm Scared. And in subsequent legs, she performed Mannequin and Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know. The concert was never broadcasted live and it didn't receive any DVD release as her previous tours. However, some professional footage of the Copenhagen date exists, provided by Yahoo. While in Paris, Britney talked to ET about the changes on the European leg, and some of her dancers showed the outfits worn onstage. They also revealed Britney and Chase choreographed Mannequin. Feel free to share your favorite clips of the tour, as well as pictures and outfits
  5. On October 30, 2009, Britney Spears released the music video for 3, the lead and only single off her compilation album The Singles Collection. The video was filmed in early October in Los Angeles and it was directed by Diane Martel, who had previously worked with a lot of artists including Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, RBD, The Killers, and many more. Tone & Rich were in charge of the choreography and GK Reid worked closely with Britney to design the fashion of the video. About the music video, Diane Martel said The music video starts with Britney putting on mascara and spraying her Circus Fantasy in front of a mirror, and then we see her dancing and singing in front of a white background. The rest of the video is basically Britney in a bunch of different costume changes (mostly leotards), some scenes she's with the male dancers, and in others we see her with the female dancers or all by herself. Also, in the video version of the song, the word "sin" is replaced by "this" Elements of the video, like the metal bar and the barcode-like lights, would be later incorporated in the live performance of the song at her Las Vegas residency Piece of Me in 2013. After a countdown and a little teaser, the video was officially released through her Twitter account, and later in November it was uploaded to her newly created VEVO channel on Youtube, where it has reached 91M views. In MTV Latin America, the music video landed at #73 in the yearly Top 100 of 2009, and it would appear at #44 in 2010. In December 2009, the Director's Cut leaked online, showing scenes that were a bit more provocative and in general a bit more polished edition of the video. Apparently, the official video's edition had to be rushed to made it coincide with the release of The Singles Collection. Related:
