On July 27, 2009, Britney Spears released an animated music video for Kill the Lights.
On February 10, 2009, a fan fiction contest was launched on britney.com. The winner of the contest would get to see their story becoming a plot for an official music video of any song from the Circus album.
Later, the winner of the contest was announced. It was Eliana Moyano from Argentina, who picked Kill the Lights and this was her entry:
On May 18, we got a sneak peek of the video
The video was directed by PUNY and was released for purchase via iTunes on September 4, 2009. The video only features about half of the song, and though some fans consider it the continuation of Break the Ice (which also got an animated video) this relationship was never confirmed.
Kill the Lights was not released as an official single, but it was included in the promotional CD that came with the perfume Circus Fantasy released later in the year, along with Circus (Junior Vasquez Club Circus Mix).
