The Fame/Fame Monster is Gaga’s best work!

Recommended Posts

What I like about Gaga is her ability to adapt to different styles, proving that in each album. IMO, Joanne is the one that stands out the least, yet she created a solid record.
The Fame Monster is literally that, a MONSTER. There’s no skip for me. I also love The Fame, but c’mon, maybe two more tracks and there you have an official studio album.

Fame/fame monster IS gaga. Btw was a great follow up after that her stuff isn’t any different than another other pop star.  Her first two albums set her apart from the rest. Daring, intriguing , exciting. She has never come close to repeating that since then. No matter how solid her other albums are.

I actually dislike Gaga as a whole (#notaTrueGay)... But I have a softspot for the three songs "Eh Eh (Nothing else...)", "LoveGame" and the absolute BANGER "The Fame".

Still, I was very Anti-Gaga back then (Gaga vs Britney vs Madonna fights in my head lol) and I went hipster when The Fame: Monster came out, preferring the original album over it (never liked the art direction/aesthetics in most of her music videos; it made the song Alejandro worse for me, for example).

Before I forget about this topic:

This is hands down the most ICONIC Gaga look for me. Fashion and modern. No meat dress shock gimmick, no overdramatic lipstick and looking "angry" (the whole Monsters theme hadn't set in yet?) etc. Yet she still had that WTF factor that made people talk about her looks rather than her music, that early on in her career.

I like to regard TFM separately from The Fame, Gaga does too. I think it might have helped had it just been called 'Monster' and maybe had a few more songs on it to stop the 'IS IT AN ALBUM OR AN EP?!?!?!?!' (personally I consider it to be her second album lol) debate.

Either way, it's my favourite from her. Every track is AMAZING. Bad Romance (one of her best), Alejandro, Dance in the Dark, So Happy I Could Die.... even Teeth grew on me overtime, it's actually a fun song.

The Fame is a solid album too. Poker Face is probably my fave Gaga single of all time (it's the song that made me a fan), Paparazzi, LoveGame, Beautiful Dirty Rich, Money Honey, Boys Boys Boys... BAWPS.

Totally agree. I think of TFM as her second (and greatest) album. Cohesive, no fillers... amazing.

I kinda hate the “deluxe” album phenomenon from a few years ago tbh. Where artists would tack on some new tracks (or a whole new ep) to milk sales of an old album or pretend it was better than it was. Felt a little like they were trying to rewrite history. Like Xtina pretending the original versions of What a Girl Wants and Come on Over never existed.

That being said,  The Fame is also a great album and solid debut. It’s just very top heavy imho. I rarely make it through the second half.

I didn't mind the deluxe edition thing, we would usually get new tracks to enjoy. But I don't think The Fame Monster should be seen as a rerelease of The Fame, it stands alone as its own album.

I kinda agree with you about The Fame. Although it's a pretty good debut, the first half is better. Paper Gangsta is my favourite from the second half.

The Fame / Fame Monster duo will forever and always be Gaga’s prime era, and The Fame Monster alone by itself was and still is THAT ALBUM. The overall sound, the visuals, the production, the fashion, BEYONCÉ (Beyhive haters don’t come at me). She had it ALL.

I’ve had the HBO Monster Ball special on repeat during this entire quarantine because I literally cannot get over how FAB she was during those years. It’s really Gaga’s best.

That being said, The Fame’s late aughts Red One production really sounds dated for me. Not that I don’t love a trip back to 2008 every so often (Ah, pre- Corona, Trump, and 9/11... what a time to be alive), but really, without the Fame Monster attached, it’s not her best work to me. Other than the singles (Paparazzi being my favorite of them), Summerboy, and Paper Gangsta, the rest of the album I skip. Fame Monster I still play straight through, every time.

Born This Way to me is her most cohesive full body of work sonically, and where Gaga got the most interesting for me visually. Her songs combined with the visuals, started carrying more dimension and depth, all with that heavy metal (lover) edge that Gaga seemed to really be at home in, and which I personally loved.

ASIB soundtrack (although good) doesn’t count, and Artpop / Joanne were not really my cup of tea, tbh.

As far as Chromatica goes, I think y’all pay dust to it and don’t see it for the gem that it is. It may not have pleased everyone’s expectations, but I think it’s an excellent, strong body of work that is true to Gaga’s artistry and is a worthy pop follow-up.

My order of albums would be: Fame Monster, Born This Way, Chromatica, The Fame, ASIB (if we include it) Joanne, Artpop, Cheek to Cheek (I do enjoy her signing jazz but prefer her pop music much more).

She was creative with TFM.... It was fresh and new and I loved it.
Her other albums were overproduced, muddled and "too much" for me. I lost her when BTW came out with the alien thing...

Exactly my feelings. If she came out with her other records as an introduction to the GP she wouldn't have been as big. TFM is amazing
