I went to the OIDIA Tour, and the jump in overall amazingness from that concert to DWAD was seriously unexpected. My bestie and I sat there with our eyes bulging, as it happened live, like what is happening?? It was like all the right elements in Britney world culminated to give us the perfect pop spectacle. Don't get me wrong TOHT is great too but... idk... i didn't like few things like the stage, that guy that appeared way too many times and another thing that i dislike about TOHT (downvote me all you want but i'm just being honest) is the kiss during BOM... idk i feel like it was kinda "forced" and i feel like she was trying to say: "see? i'm a grown woman, i can do whatever i want" i might be wrong but this is how i feel like when i watch that show (and especially that performance) but besides that TOHT is a good show! 100% all of this. The MC was obnoxious, unfunny and cringeworthy, and frankly made the whole show appear more cheap (which was not good since the stage already looked really bare compared to DWAD). Even looking at him now annoys me. And yeah, Britney did a disservice to her own incredible performance abilities, as well as the amazing song that is BOM, with that rather desperate performance during the OHT. It required zero talent, and thus was done simply to generate controversy. I don’t like when controversy is contrived for the sake of controversy; it should be an authentic reaction to something innovative and artistic that polarizes people. But I’m sorry, there is nothing about the following requiring any semblance of artistic creativity: It’s just tacky, looks like a soft-core porno, and Britney is much better than that. The whole set (especially the bed) also looked really cheap and turned the show into the The Onyx Motel at that point. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually far prefer the POM performance of BOM; at least it had real choreo and it was very sensual without being over-the-top. With all that being said, however, OHT had some amazing performances (The Hook Up, Showdown, Toxic/Overprotected/Boys breakdowns, etc), Everytime was beautiful even though the vocals weren’t generally the best, and Shadow is one of the most visually stunning performances out of all her tours. Also, I loved all of her costumes (although am not pleased that the “wearing underwear as costumes” phase seemingly insidiously originated during this time and never fully disappeared thereafter, even though they were still really flattering and actual costumes back then). I'm still so curious as to what Wade Robson would've come up with for the Circus tour by the way... But I think Nappytabs will bring the goods for Domination. Did they reply to you?? Link to comment

Cigarettes&Cologne
when i said dwad was family friendly i was more talking about the entire vibe of the show (the 'troops' thing just sticks in my mind all the time). it felt like a show aimed at families with the occasional **** routine (i.e. slave). onyx is overall more adult Link to comment
Slayer
i'll choose DWAD as it is more of a spectacle! i hated the audio/sound of the music for onyx, it always seemed so low/strange Link to comment

Oh, the reason for that was because DWAD was right after September 11, 2001. The whole country was still in a complete state of shock and terrified about what would happen next. Britney would’ve gotten a ton of backlash if she hadn’t done something to acknowledge the biggest terrorist attack on US soil in American history. I know she even had to stop promoting Britney for a little while because the album release essentially coincided with the timing of the attacks. (That being said, you’re obviously entitled to your opinion and I think a lot of fans prefer OHT to DWADT because the former indisputably has much more “adult” content. I just wanted to provide a reference point for the reasoning behind the military support and whatnot). Link to comment
Ringleader34
DWAD is the epitome of “Britney Spears”. Onyx was more adult (and not just because of the TOMH/BOM performances but the production and stage for DWAD was perfect. Link to comment

The water, her being in the air, the upside down thing, the everything! The dancing! We got oldschool britney but also new **** one! Nice outfits! AMAZING dancing! And i prefer her attitude in DWAD. Less slutty/bitchy. I only dislike the weird LMBTLTK voice tone, wth were they thinking !? Lol and the awful Anticipating performance. But thats all. But Onyx comes right after!! There was a period of time after getting the DVD where I would leave it in my DVD player and play it while getting ready in the morning for school. It was like my ritual haha. The DLMBTLTK tone is so odd I never understood why they did that. It’s like awkward to watch. I agree with the anticipation part, I felt like that was one of their attempts make the show still okay for the pre-tween crowds. To balance out the sexier parts, like give a little kid-friendly Britney too. Another part that I was never thrilled about was Stronger. Link to comment

Onyx was marketed towards a more adult audience compared to DWAD and her other previous tours based on advertising, MTV sponsored it too. Link to comment
Guido
OMG guys! Im high watching ONYX from Lissabon! WTF? This is fierceness at its BEST! Damn... she's living it. They way she executes the dance moves and her face.... ON FIRE! So much damn attitude. So impressed! Almost forgot what this girl is capable of. AMAZING! I really think her knee injury effected her big time. It followed a time in her life where she wouldnt tour and dance professionally for years (2004-2007). Then all her personal struggles unfolded right in time... it was a perfect storm of physical and emotionally injuries. The combination of lowered self esteem and physical limitations kind of triggered the fear in her to go all the way. To get lose of that trauma takes time and patience. I think thats why till this day she never managed to go back to that old fierceness and attitude. But take a look!!!! Boys breakdown kills me! WOW! Link to comment

I do admit the DWAD was THAT tour, but the Onyx Hotel Tour, it's the one that keeps in my heart Link to comment
nthenwkiss
I can't stress enough how good DWAD was. I don't think it can even be compared to any of her other tours; this spectacle shouldn't even be a concert, like the production level of it its above and beyond what's required. I don't think another show like this one is around, expect maybe some of the BEST Cirque du Soleil's shows; and even then. I love about this tour that EVERYTHING had a purpose and everything was meticulously calculated. Things weren't there just for the sake of being there, Jesus they even minded the gaps on the cubes screen and edited the video for it to look perfectly designed for that specific screen; things just wouldn't blow up for the sake of shock, they were PERFECTLY coordinated with the moves, with the sound, with the feel! Even the quality of the metal used for the stage looked amazing. This production level is on the level of like an olympics ceremony opening, and even then; my god even the lasers from overprotected were coordinated with the "jail bars" displayed on the screens. When watching the DVD I would always fantasize about what would go on backstage, how that amazing army had to work tirelessly thought the show, I would imagine the conversations over the walkie-talkies, (lights out in 3, 2, ... cue elevator. clear for fire? clear! fire go. open water, activate lasers. discharge fireworks) And last but not least. BRITNEY, effortlessly making this dream within a dream come to life. the ring leader, calling the shots in her own little fantasia. I can only imagine if her whole career was managed an produced with such perfection and poise as the DWAD tour. I might be super biased tho', I've always dreamt of being a production designer, so to me that show as like the epitome of everything; like it should be part of the permanent collection at the MOMA. I'm a very visual person, lights and sound touch my soul; hence my love for this tour. I always watch it I can only DREAM of having the opportunity to experience this level of production and fire from Britney for some of my favorite songs from her, that sadly came post peak. Like imagine that same level of everything for songs like, breathe on me, break the ice, and then we kiss, my prerogative, get naked. One can dream. Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow — You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. :) Link to comment
