Long shot and not using any “sources” but if Rihanna had declined this song one could assume they also could have had Britney on it which would have lead into Glory perfectly buuuuuuuuut wouldn’t have LEAN ON been the best pre Glory song to mix it all in and give much more attention to her album considering it totally used a lot of its format ?? 
 

for me when I make my dream playlist for that era I go LEAN ON (2015) MAKE ME (Fifty shades of grey soundtrack) followed by JUST LUV ME… adding Justin beiber (not a beliber.. but would have been a great way to add a feature to go mainstream) then after all the hype and attention to make controversy which we know our Princess is known for release Slumber Party featuring Selena circa Halloween 2016 throwing insult to injury after working with Beiber …. Then Kesha praying / Liar for Grammys would be a perfect era imo
