Would Britney Have Ended Up like Katy Perry if She Never Had a Breakdown?

So over here in the real world....

Approach your average 30 year old on the street and ask them to name a Britney Spears song that came out after Toxic and they might say something like "That one where she goes 'Britney *****'".  Even then it'd be unclear if they meant Gimme More or Scream & Shout.  That's the truth.

The GP hasn't really cared about Britney Spears' music since Toxic.  Britney Spears the 'character' has been what's kept her in the public consciousness all these years since.

If it weren't for the fact that everyone had already written her of as 'crazy' by the time it came out and if Blackout had had a true prime Britney level marketing and PR drive, then I think it could have completely reinvented her career for at least another few years in the publics mind.  For those of us that remember though, what actually happened was everyone was making bald Britney jokes while fans were desperately screaming into the wind :ahhh_britney_scream_glory_excited_yay_pumped:, desperately trying to divert peoples attention to this musical masterpiece she'd just created.  It was too late at that stage, nobody cared and they haven't cared about her music since.

Disagree, GP likely knows womanizer abd many people know circus

Britney had youth, charisma and talent on a massive scale, comparable to Michael Jackson. Also an elusive charm that attracts manic levels of attention.

Katy Perry was a faux-lesbian pop rock chick of the moment who was commercialised well for a few years.

BIG difference!

Thank you for sayin the true gurl  :typing_keyboard_computer:

Did she? “The voice” debut had multiple #1 singles not just one. And sold relatively the same to Brit…therefore what she lacked in album sales she made up with singles chart performances. Over It Smiling GIF by Pretty Dudes

not reading the explanation over a factual thing, BOMT sold more than Whitney debut and that's about it.

I think she was about to enter a really interesting stage. Had she done a proper "prime Britney" type of promo and videos for Blackout and had she been allowed to release the alleged Original Doll concept before,  she would have immediately become an even bigger star than she was.  You know, people would have eaten it up.

Idk about original doll as it was when ppl were gettin tired of her and her antics. But I 100% agree with the blackout statement. Primeney doin videos for b/o would’ve been like when jt dropped fsls..it would’ve been her year and honestly the biggest comeback in pop history. Those songs were huge with BAD promo, sub par videos, lackluster performance, and bad press…prime Britney would’ve sold 10 million. The songs would’ve been #1

Yeah.  People were bored, not of the artist, but of the antics constantly plastered everywhere.

I think, if she had acted differently, people would have been fascinated. I mean, for the sensitive fans who might think I am trying to say how she had to live, nope, it is not what I am doing. I am glad she did what she wanted. Having said that, had she been more focused on music and didn't appear to the public like a "party girl", people would have been a bit different. I mean, I am not even a huge Taylor Swift fan, but had Britney taken that route of churning song after song and being obsessed with music and her career, perceptions would have been different, I think.  Part of what is undeniably good in Swift is her work ethic and people have changed their perception of her, even when not all of her songs are that good and she has received her fare share of hate.

But at the end of the day, it ia clear that what Britney really wanted was a well deserved break. Maybe, if they let her, that would have been the real game changer

I totally agree. She became an icon instantly and couldn’t shut it off. To make matters worse it happened when she was a minor. So when she was an adult thinking for herself her team wanted to secure control over that money and her. It’s sad cuz they truly ruined one of the worlds best performers of all time.

No way. Britney is insanely interesting as an artist and as a person. She's not just her hits like Katy.

I think that if britney had a better support system, a better family, knew better overall (not her fault) Britney would nowadays be where Eminem or Beyonce are. Big streams, big albums, collabs, Super Bowl, massive tours.
Sure, not everything they release is a masive hit but they do have a hit here and there, they're respected artists and their legacy continue to grow.
