Post Malone virtual concert announced for the Pokémon 25th Anniversary Celebration

The Pokémon Company has announced a Post Malone virtual concert for the upcoming Pokémon Day (February 27).

The P25 Music program, which celebrates Pokémon's landmark 25th anniversary with some of the biggest names in music, kicks off on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2021, with Post Malone's virtual concert. Fans will be able to tune in to this free concert on Pokémon's 25th Anniversary website, the official Pokémon YouTube channel, or the official Pokémon Twitch channel starting at 4:00 p.m. PST. After the concert, more details about P25 Music will be revealed, so make sure to stick around after the show.

This event kicks off a yearlong series of celebrations that will be announced periodically. Last month, it was announced that Katy Perry would take part of the celebrations with the release of a new song, which details will be released after Post Malone's concert on February 27.

 

To tie the musical celebration, a special Pikachu that knows the move Sing will be distributed for the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games for the Nintendo Switch. There's also gonna be a special paid event on Pokémon Go on February 20 where it'll be possible to obtain the original 151 Pokémon in their shiny form.

This feels contrived. I mean what does Post Malone have to do with Pokemon's main demographic? Most of them are too young to be fans of his "music" and even most of the older Pokemon fans are either nerds or gaymers so why would they listen to rap?

Pokemon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. It outsold Star Wars, Harry Potter, Mario, Disney princesses, etc. Don't be surprised.
