Anitta’ Boys Don’t Cry is a hit…only in Brazil

Poor Anitta.

Her newest single “Boys Don’t Cry” an attempt to reach the always difficult market for non English speakers is a hit but only in Brazil.

The song only charted on Spotify Brazil but hit #2 the day it premiered on January 28 and now is on #30 and the US it didn’t hit the top 200. It also spent eight days in the global rank but about 80% from the streaming was coming from Brazil.

To promote the song, she even went to Jimmy Fallon but failed with only hit #31 on Pop Airplay on Billboard.

So Exhalers, what Anitta is doing wrong or is it prejudice from Americans?

She needs a lot more promo than a Jimmy Fallon appearance. She needs a lot of investment in marketing to become a familiar face + she needs a simple catchy song that people will like it.

What racist past? Anitta came from the Brazilians favelas she’s mixed raced. She’s not white.

She came across a bit disingenuous, like all of a sudden she sounded like Taylor swift. Had no soul, her vocals were generic, anyone could've sang a max Martin song and added a little more personality to it.

Honestly she’s been given more of a push in America than MANY local artists (Tinashe, the 5H girls minus Camila, Kim Petras and many others). It just feels like she’s putting out different genre sounding music until one of the songs stick and become a hit and then she’ll make that “her sound”. So it doesn’t feel like she’s being a genuine artist. You can tell she’s hungry to make it in America and I appreciate her hard work. I hope she makes it, but I always thought she was like a Brazilian Rihanna type, hot, ****, bad betch who is super confident as an artist. I never felt that from her since she’s been trying to break America. If she brought that X factor energy she had in her homeland, I think it would resonate with the American audience. Look at Shakira, she did not give in to the American trends for her debut album and it was a hit.
