We Didn’t Know It At The Time, But This Was Probably One Of The Most Iconic Moments In Her Entire Career

“I could hear the screams already. Hundreds of people had gathered outside. It was an October day in 2018, and there was a huge crowd outside the new Park MGM hotel in Las Vegas. Superfans were dressed in matching clothes and waving flags emblazoned with the letter B.

Dancers onstage were wearing T-shirts that said BRITNEY.

Announcers were livestreaming, hyping up their followers. Laser lights were flashing. A giant screen was showing scenes from my videos. Dance music blasted. A parade went by with marchers loudly singing lyrics like

"My loneliness is killing me!"

The lights went down.

Mario Lopez, who was there to host the event, said into the mic, "We are here to welcome the new queen of Vegas..."

Dramatic music started—a riff from "Toxic." Crazy lights flashed on the Park MGM so it looked like the building was pulsing. Cue a medley of other songs and projections of a rocket ship, a helicopter, a circus big top, and a snake in the Garden of Eden. Fire blasted up from fire pits around the stage! I rose from the floor on a hydraulic lift, waving and smiling in a tight little black dress with star cutouts and tassels, my hair super long and blond

"... Ladies and gentlemen," Mario Lopez continued, "Britney Spears!"

I walked down the stairs in my high heels to "Work *****" and signed a few autographs for fans. But then I did something unexpected.

I walked past the cameras.

I kept walking until I got into an SUV and left.

I said nothing. I did not perform. If you were watching, you were probably wondering: What just happened?

What you didn't see was that my father and his team were trying to force me to announce the show. I'd said I didn't want to announce it because, as I'd been saying for months, I didn't want to do it.

When I'd sung the song "Overprotected" so many years earlier, I'd had no idea what overprotection was. I'd learn soon, because once I made it clear that I wasn't going to keep doing Vegas, my family made me disappear.”

 

 

 

This moment right here, was the start of her regaining her freedom and life back. That is what makes this moment one of the most iconic moments in her career.

That’s what shocked me too. Maybe if they had grabbed her, it would’ve raised more questions with Britney on a dead set walk to the car, she could’ve caused a scene, so they just let her walk.

I loved that. She showed that even though she was in a ****ty predicament, that she still loved us fans. Even towards the end she tried to stop and sign an autograph and got pulled away since she already ruined the whole show for Team Con.

She was supposed to announce it at the top of those steps? 

It took great courage to walk away, and she is right that the punishment was 4 months of pretend psychiatric care. I don't know what those nurses thought who watched a technician take her blood with Robin and a security guard supervising. They knew that the lithium levels needed to be monitored.

this whole thing is so strange… would made more sense if she was announcing it on the top… but what was the plan? doing the interview with the guy she shortly talked to? with Mario?

She's honestly such a rockstar.. I love her so much.  This was her first step in taking back control of her life! She really is a smart woman. Doing it in front of the world so everyone knew something wasn't right!
