Let’s be real, Hold Me Closer kinda went nowhere due to the horrible music video

What's the deal with the longevity talk recently? Some music videos WITH Britney don't even have the success as HMC. And I personally think Britney not appearing was a in a way a good thing. For the first time she released something that wasn't about her looks (animations still portrayed her in cartoon form) it was more concentrated on the voices and it emphasized her artistic side. And the video may be a bit underwhelming to some, but I feel it's beautiful.

I love this take and agree. It's nice that it was just about the music.

The song was a success idk what you are talking about. It spent months on the charts with little to no promotion, was included in the new NOW compilation, was just released as a song on Beatstar (popular mobile app) and is still playing on radios. What more do you want?

People live under a rock. I’ve seen an exhaler claiming Super Freaky Girl is not a hit when the song spent 3 months on top 10 and 3 month top 40. :queenriri_rihanna_red_wave_carpet_smile:

I think the video sucks but I disagree that HMC didn’t serve longevity when it stayed on the top longer than some of her own songs. I don’t think a different video would have make a difference. If anything, having a crappy video NOT affecting the staying power of the song speaks of how much the public still loves Britney. Also, not a lot of people care about music videos anymore, the only music videos I still watch are Taylor’s and that’s because she’s one of the only remaining artists that makes interesting music videos rather than just pretty visuals.

Sometimes I find myself thinking that Hold Me Closer would’ve had much better longevity if the music video had been different. The Dua collab got such a cool high quality animation which actually had replay value whereas the Hold Me Closer video was just some people doing weird dance moves and the scenery that made absolutely no sense. I still to this day think this is the worst video of Britney’s entire career.

That song is good as "hello, I'm still there", but as single for example in mid-career is boring and basic :staysalty_hands_rub_so_there_blue_walk_away_made_my_point:

Because it was a form of support for Britney. Otherwise it would flopped immediately hard.
