Throwback Thursday, Get to know The latin queen of pop Gloria estefan.

If there's an artist that can say, There would be No Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, and jon secada.

 

In the English Music market with a Cuban girl named Gloria estefan..

 

For almost two decades, she was the only one representing latin culture in the US, and the world, but it could have ended, in 1990 with a bus accident that actually could have killed her..

 

While others noted most catered to hip hop and R&B markets, Gloria refused to do such thing, as she was proud of bringing latin sounds to American radio, even through she was told Tracks Like Conga, Rhythm is gonna get you and a massive cult favorite Doctor. Beat wouldn't be enbraced the way they are, but if anything when Gloria toured (she retired from touring due to the strain on her body), she sung in both English and Spanish. 

 

Gloria according to Billboard is the 3rd most popular artist in the US Billboard latin songs charts, behind only Julio Iglesias and his son Enrique Iglesias putting her as the only female in the top 3 most popular Latin acts even at 54 in 2011, She had a number one debut becoming the only female tp ebter at number one on the chart with Hotel Nacional (National Hotel).

 

She is starring in a latin reworking of Father of the Bride, on HBO max and filmimg a 3rd season of The Red Table talk: The estefans with her niece Lili Estefan (many are shocked thats Gloria niece not her daughter), and her daughter Emily estefan (whose episode of her coming out story was emmy nominated and Gladd nominated for best topic coverage).

Oh yes she has some memorable songs,  she paved the road for many Latin artists in the U.S. and she helped Shakira translate her first songs into English.

I have the "Gloria!" album and omg, once you push play it doesn't let you go, great compilation of songs from 1998!

It was confessions album with the non stop mix

 

Hell, Sony music had to throw a disclaimer on the cassette tape, Stating due to the nature of the album and the artist's request after side 2 plays the 28 Minutes of blank is normal, and isn't a malfunction as the first side is the non stop Mix and side 2 is the bonus Tracks.

Also Jennifer Lopez let's get loud as she gave that to her,  The original Gloria version wouldn't be issued until 2011 as a bonus track on little miss Havana

omg I didn't know that about the cassette disclaimer! But I cannot read it...
