Popular Post PokemonSpears Posted September 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 21, 2020 On September 21, 2004, Britney Spears released My Prerogative, the lead single off her Greatest Hits: My Prerogative compilation album. The song had already been leaked on September 10 as part of the mixtape The Future of R&B by the Real Tapemasters, and the music video premiered on September 16. The song is a cover of Bobby Brown's 1988 hit, with some lyric adjustments to fit Britney's gender. Britney's version was produced by Bloodshy & Avant, the producers of Toxic, and it was recorded in May 2004, during the European leg of The Onyx Hotel Tour. The producers of the song replaced the original's bass sound with a synthpop sound, synthesizers and added elements of Bollywood music. Jennifer Vineyard of MTV commented the cover could be interpreted as a statement on Spears' life and the media reaction to some of her decisions at the time, including her engagement to American dancer Kevin Federline (who she married on September 18 of that year). The song failed to enter the BBH100 (it peaked at #1 in the Bubbling Under chart ) but it reached #22 at the Top 40 Tracks chart and #32 at the Mainstream Top 40. It also peaked at #3 in the Digital Song Sales chart. In the UK it landed at #3, only surpassed by Eminem's Just Lose It and Destiny's Child Lose My Breath. It hit the Top 10 in many European countries, including #1 in Finland, Ireland, Italy and Norway. The song has never been performed live. However, according to Nappytabs, My Prerogative was going to be part of the setlist of Britney Spears' cancelled residency in Las Vegas, Domination, which was set to start in 2019. 17

Arckangel Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 That's a fierce single cover. So, radio stations did not play it much in the US? Was it still because of the Clear Channel ban? 4

I don’t think it had to do with that since it got lifted with Toxic, but I remember this was around the time most people started trashing her more often than before and Kfed didn’t help the situation 2
blackoutbixxh Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Such an underrated gem in her discography 9

YannFrance Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 I'm sad she never got to perform it live, it could have been epic. Also the music video is one of her best, love how dark **** and intriguing it is. I remember the Greatest Hits was very sucessfull here in europe and i was obsessed with the DVD they released with all her music videos <3 6 1

Was it still because of the Clear Channel ban? I think this picture they used for the single cover is actually from the "I Love Rock N Roll" music video shooting, a bit random . No, she wasn't anymore (it ended after the Britney era), but she had terrible reviews due to the fact that it was a Bobby Brown cover and that ***hole is overrated as hell in the US. It did good in Europe though.

bliss Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 One of her most underrated singles, I never understood how it was a big hit everywhere except in the US. It went top 10 in over 20 countries (including #1 in 4), #2 in Europe, #7 in Australia, was even a hit in Russia and charted in Japan (which was rare for english songs), but somehow it didn't even chart on the hot 100 in the US 2 2
BRITannico Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 What gem and what great music video. We were about to have a live performance of the song on Domination and I was so excited to see it. Hopefully we get to see a MP live performance on day.
ColdAsFire88 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 All of you rooting for her to perform this song live while shes under the conservatorship are delusional ‘s Im glad she hasn’t performed it live. Its a mockery to her. The song IS iconic but still I don't need permission, make my own decisions 2 2
