Teen Dies From Bubonic Plague

“A 15-year-old boy has died in western Mongolia of bubonic plague, the country's national news agency reported. The Health Ministry said laboratory tests confirmed the teenager died of plague that he contracted from an infected marmot, according to the Montsame News Agency.“

Apparently groundhogs are a kind of marmot.

It's kinda weird, because in Spanish there's only one word for it "marmota". Groundhog is translated as "marmota canadiense" which would be like Canadian marmot.

But for example, "the groundhog day" is translated just as "el día de la marmota"

in italy we call them "marmotta". Why we can't speak only one language?
