JK Rowling accuses female Olympic boxer of being a man who hits women: “Paris, your safeguard is a joke” #Paris2024

Recommended Posts

JK Rowling made the subject popular yesterday when she accuses one of the female boxers of not being enoughly classified as a woman (apparently because of one of the evaluations) to be fighting against each other. See the tweets below.

What is behind this story?

Imane Khelif remained in the ring for just 46 seconds before Italian Angela Carini, claiming severe pain in her nose, abandoned the fight. It might have gone unnoticed among the dozens of simultaneous events at the Games, were it not for the context: Imane is one of the boxers who failed the IBA tests and was authorized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete.

Khelif lost her chance to compete for the gold medal at the 2023 World Boxing Championships after being eliminated on the eve of the match for "failing to meet the eligibility criteria" for the competition. The IBA - the International Boxing Association that organizes the World Championships - said the reason would not be disclosed for reasons of medical confidentiality, and it maintains that position to this day.

The organization's president, Umar Kremlev, however, told Russian news outlets at the time that "DNA tests on two female boxers proved that they have XY (male) chromosomes and that is why they were excluded." Those test results have never been published.

According to the IOC report, Khelif was removed from the World Championships for exceeding the limit for testosterone levels in her body. The IBA denies this information. Yu-Ting, in a similar situation, lost her bronze medal. Khelif also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but later withdrew the case, leaving the IBA decision in force.

Both boxers, however, have been cleared by the International Olympic Committee to compete in the Games. The IOC uses different rules to the IBA, based on the Tokyo criteria, and has confirmed that they meet the necessary medical criteria.

This scenario has sparked criticism in comments on social media, with many wrongly calling her a transgender athlete and calling for Khelif to be expelled from the competition. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke about the case upon her arrival at Casa Italia:

– I did not agree with the choice of 2021 when the IOC changed the regulations on this matter, I do not agree today – said Meloni.

– I thank Angela for the way she fought. I regret that she gave up. I was moved when she wrote: "I will fight" because in these things what counts is head and dedication, but it also counts to be able to compete on equal terms. And this was not a challenge on equal terms – he said.

Khelif, however, was born a girl and grew up a cis woman - identifying with the gender she was assigned at birth. As a child, she was raised in a rural village and was unable to participate in sports because her father "did not approve of boxing for girls."

It is therefore not a question of transgender athletes, something that the IOC itself is keen to emphasize.

“They have lost and won against other women over time and we need to make it very clear, this is not a transgender issue. I know you know that, but there have been some reporting errors, it is very important to say this is not a transgender issue,” said IOC spokesman Mark Adams.

Many women can have testosterone levels at what are called “male” levels and still be women, can still compete as women – she continued.

– This idea that you can do a testosterone test and that will solve everything, that is not the case, I believe. But each sport needs to deal with its own issues. They know their sports and disciplines best and need to seek and adapt their tests. But I think we agree that we do not want to go back to the days of the battle of s** tests, which were a horrible thing to do – he adds.

Why does the IOC use different rules than the IBA?

The IOC withdrew its recognition of the IBA as boxing's governing body for failing to complete reforms to the body's governance, finances and ethics. The IBA appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but its appeal was rejected.

In Paris, therefore, the boxing competition is being organized by the Paris Boxing Unit, which has developed its own medical and qualification rules.

The PBU allowed both athletes to participate based on the Tokyo rules, which had fewer restrictions than the IBA's - based on the post-Rio 2016 rules that were in place before the federation's suspension. IOC spokesman Mark Adams said the organization was completely comfortable with the rules in place.

In order to keep boxing in the next Olympics, the IOC has asked national boxing federations and national Olympic committees to find a replacement for the IBA from 2025 onwards.

What does the IBA say?

The IBA said this week that Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships as a "result of a failure to meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the women's competition" , as it said at the time. It called it "an extremely important decision and necessary to maintain the level of fairness and integrity of the competition".

It adds that the athletes "were not tested for testosterone but underwent a separate, recognised test, the details of which remain confidential". It says the test indicated that both did not meet the necessary eligibility criteria and were considered to have competitive advantages over other competitors.

The disqualification was based on two tests carried out:

  • Test during the 2022 Istanbul World Cup
  • Test during the 2023 New Delhi World Cup

Why were they only disqualified at the end of the competition in 2023?

This was a question from the Boxing Council, which ended up approving the exclusion of the athletes in a meeting on March 25, 2023, since they had gone through different phases of the competition without questioning. The meeting was reported in a document to which ge had access.

On the occasion, the IBA Secretary General and CEO, who led the negotiations, said that the test took place at the request of the Technical Delegate and Medical Jury of the Championships, which came out seven days after the request, and that the athletes were notified to appeal the decision to the CAS.

A similar test had been carried out on the athletes by another laboratory in the previous edition of the World Cup, but the results were only released after the event. The proposal to rectify the decision to disqualify them - taken by the Secretary and CEO - was approved by the majority, with one abstention and one vote against.

The IOC understands this as a sudden and arbitrary decision by the IBA, without due process.

Yes, the innate physical strength of the born s.exes remains the same. In any sport, they should create a special category for transgender people to balance the strength.

Boxing is determined by weight classes, and the cis women there aren't dainty princesses; they're literally trained fighters.

It's not a heavy weight fighter fighting a feather weight. It's broken up into groupings.

It doesn't matter, it should be fair and everyone should fight against each other as equals.

Biological males will always be stronger than biological females. Testosterone, estrogen, and many other factors come into play here that you cannot change. It doesn’t matter what weight they are. Biological males have testosterone running through their muscles that automatically make them stronger than biological females.

This Italian boxer literally said she’s never been punched harder in her life. 45 seconds in.

Yes, they do come into play, but transwomen take hormones that lower testosterone, and raise estrogen, and that has an effect on muscle density etc.

The Olympics also makes sure athletes aren't using performance enhancing substances so if anything was beyond an acceptable limit, she wouldn't have been allowed.

Once again, it's broken up by weight classes, and on top of that, they're fighters. Framing this as a "man" hitting a woman is silly, she's a boxer; she's going to fight.

Burn all her stupid books. I’ve had enough of this woman. Like why is she so pressed about the same thing. It must be coming deep from her own insecurities. Does she have her own self doubts? It really makes you ask that question.

You live a certain amount of time on this planet and then you die, and after some period of time everyone around you will, and no one will remember you. You live just to be happy. Why try to take someone else’s happiness? Why do you care? Shame on you billionaire and the rest of you righteous ones

We never see trans men in men sports, do we? And these trans women always win. One cracked a woman's skull, another paralyzed a woman, so on. People are cowards, afraid to say what everyone really thinks.

You’re a sad little person

Imagine being a multi-millionaire and spending your time destroying your legacy by hating on a marginalized minority that never did anything to you… This lady is so pathetic and I wouldn't be surprised if her weird obsession with trans people stems from suppressed desires to be masculine herself. :bedtime_britney_book_Reading:

Spoiler

It's not normal to think about something you're "against" 24/7 the way them clown *** TERFs do, there's something inside of them they're unwilling to face. :imdying_wendy_crying_sad_tears_sobbing:
