In the sense that she sang with the microphone, but it was turned off. They only turned it on for her when she had to speak.

If you remember on the Circus Tour, I think in Australia, when she sang Everytime, they started booing her for playback, so they turned on the microphone.

There is a big difference in her facial expressions when she is actually singing live vs. lip syncing. Same thing with her body posture. So I don’t buy the claim that she always sings live even if her mic is off.

It might mean that she's singing even though the pre recorded audios are louder than her live vocals.

You can still hear a little of her singing in lot of the shows.
