Not really. The Y chromosome passes down the line from sons - if you are a MALE then your Y chromosome goes ALL THE WAY Down to the FIRST person with that Y chromosome. I am assuming that's why the male's last name was important going so far back. But, I mean, traditions are racist/homophobic/realityphobic/transmasaganistic/antiwhatever so it's whatever, I guess it really doesn't matter in 2022 but, yeah.
