OT: I agree. The bridge leading into the chorus is the best part of the song and truly one of the greatest moments in pop music history. It’s chilling.

In the last few years I started to really appreciate the song for it's genius.  I didnt use to care for it, because it was so overplayed and felt so much like a one hit wonder kind of track. Max literally created the whole song completely by himself. I still want to hear his vocal demo. I think it would probably make Britneys version even more impactful.

I think it's the contrast within itself and compared to the previous sections. The song is pretty reserved from verse 1 to chorus 2. Britney is singing ABOUT desperation but she is barely letting that desperation SHOW.

Emotion slips out in the pre-chorus in the capitalized lyrics below:

SHOW me how you want it to be.

Tell me baby cause I need to know now OH because...

 

The bridge begins with quiet reflection, repeating previous lyrics with an introspective and longing tone. A lonely breeze blows by (in stereo) to stir up chills, then all reservations are released as Britney belts out a final plea.

She mixes the familiar lyrics with a new rhythm and escalated urgency. All coyness is gone as she seeks to correct her regret and relive the past she took for granted just one more time. 

Max has a way with bridges and this may be his best!

The best pop song ever, period. It’s perfect in every way. As if the song isn’t good enough as a full track, the instrumental is So Fantastic!
