Ace of Base nearly destroyed their legacy in 2010

In 2010 Ace of Base released what is probably known as the album that killed the band. And almost erased their legacy.

Members switching is normal. But Ace of Base was a family act. The original line up Was Jonas "Joker" Berggren and His sisters Malin "Linn" Berggren and Jenny Berggren and family friend Ulf "Buddha" Ekberg.

While it's well known. Linn left cos she had fears of flying, Uncomfortable with the spotlight, etc. I'll devote a thread to explain Linn's situation which should be a caution tale for mental health.

So it was fine in 2007 with just the trio.

It was known we had a brand new album coming. But record label politics happened and ageism happened. Jenny was considered by the label as too old. And despite  being a founding member of the group. The label fired her.

It's understandable her anger to both Buddha and Joker was well earned. They agreed with the label.

So in comes two new singers Julia (she has a different stage name cos of the backlash that happened) and Clara also another huge solo act.

The image of the girls became sexualized, and let's just say. Joker and Buddha admitted the whole line up and new image switch up killed the band. The fan base jumped off.

This is a major lesson to learn. Don't change everything about the group and still call it Ace of Base.

Julia and clara said after the album promo in 2011. The phones stopped ringing and eventually they learned they were no longer needed

In 2015. Joker and Buddha released hidden gems of Music from the original line up as an apology. If you look at their avatar on Facebook and streaming playforms. It's the original line up.

Acknowledging what happened in 2010 was a horrible mistake and should have never happened.

Most Acers act like the golden ratio doesn't exist.

And Jenny forgave and moved on in 2013.

I know like 2 of their songs. I didn't even know they've been active after the 90's.

They released 3 albums in the 90s plus a hits package.

And they are the third best selling Swedish act of all time.

Most Billboard articles you will find. Point out that Unlike ABBA. Ace of Base had the top selling album of 1994 (Mariah was #2 but unlike Alanis, it's like this one's allowed by her lambs), and the top single of 1994..

It's the only time a Swedish act did that on the American billboard charts. Robyn might be admired, Tove Lo actually was the first Swedish act to have really good success with queen of the clouds going platinum and producing two top 20 hits. But we all know with Lady Wood and her over ****** and heavy **** references. People jumped shipped.

Ace of Base had four US top ten hits, two top 20 hits. And one lone top 30 hit.

Plus their cover of Don't turn around is actually more well known then the original.
