Who here writes songs?

I absolutely love to write, I take inspiration mainly from Fiona Apple/Joni Mitchell/Joanna Newsom

Here's an example

The geometry of art never ceased to suck me in
I never knew until I tried what I could do with paper and pen
I never thought that I could bring my visions into life
But sometimes they just don't feel quite right

The precision of music never ceased to please my ears
As long as it clicked with my taste I didn't need the thoughts of peers
But I never thought that I'd fall in love with someone so out of sight
She builds me up and brings me strength when I don't feel quite right

What works for me might work for you, or it might appear as strange
There's a vast array of variation in how much our tastes can change
I never thought that I would be so far from my foresight
But then again there was a feeling that didn't feel quite right

The explanations of the universe never ceased to challenge me
I never considered time and space coincided, now I see
That there is day, there is night, there is dark and there is light
And I think of all the good I've done when I don't feel quite right

Do any of you guys write?

I just wanna say. As your friendly neighborhood OriginalRoxxy, that i'm always free to listen/read your works of art, Exhalers. You can show me. Like, for real. I'm not gonna ask y'all for nothing. Just show me. Just show me. I'mma keep it simple. Real simple. Just show me. :bsass:

Chicken, chicken, chicken have you ;)

A falling beam of moonlight
Found its way onto my face
It woke me up past midnight
Right before the sun was due to wake
I rose up out of bed, and got to an early start
The moon had woken me from my slumber
Though we are so so far apart

A flaring blast of wind
Swept down from the sky so gray
It shivered my bones and shook me up good
What a miserable winter's day
Though it formed within the heavens
It reached my body with utmost force
Descending unchanged for miles
Keeping the exact same course

Some things don't have to touch you to turn your livelihood upside down
Sometimes objects nearest are the hardest to keep around
Some people don't have to know you well to keep you feeling good
Sometimes those who we want to know the most are one's we've misunderstood

This one's a little darker (my own struggles) (part of a longer poem)

It made people doubt me
When I did what I did
I tried to hold in all my feelings
But they only hurt me inside
So I had to expel them
But I couldn't bear to tell them
For as long as I held them
I could keep living their lie

I take a lot of inspiration from Fiona Apple

No one said moving a mountain was an easy feat
But to lift your feet up to go out and just try
I never said that I would be the sacrifice
It's not that sacrificial after all, and yet you still ask why

How many times have I raved to you
And railed and went off the tracks for you
All that I gave I in stacks for you
Is piled in the back of your miserable mind
Bring to the forefront the front for pushing behind

I essentially have given the essentials of it all
Your pretentiousness and pitiful nature is large, indeed
But it makes you small
Like some ever wandering hermit begging on the side of the dirt
If I gave a bit more I would myself be hurt
Yet we have a way
It's just who we are
So if you want to continue wishing on the stars
That rarely do come out at night
And even then provide nothing real
I will swear by the river that it is indeed who we are
And we'll always live in the dead of night
We won't see any light, but oh how bright
Will be the pain we feel

Love this. This is pretty cool. I've always wanted to try out songwriting since I've been so immersed in picking apart songs while reviewing them for BH articles over the years. Not even sure where to begin.
