Alec Baldwin’s Lawyer Responds to Involuntary Manslaughter Charges in ‘Rust’ Shooting of Halyna Hutchins

News just broke that Alec Baldwin will be charged with 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Halyna was shot and killed on set with a prop gun fired by Alec while filming their movie Rust in October 2021.

Luke Nikas, Baldwin's lawyer, just released a statement.

 

Nikas said (via Deadline), “This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice. Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun – or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win."

Earlier today, the Santa Fe County district attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, revealed that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Alec would both be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and she released a statement about her findings.

“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said in a statement (via NBC). “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

Assistant director on the film, David Halls, also plead guilty to a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon in a plea deal situation, according to the DA.

You can get in trouble for killing people accidentally even when it wasn't your fault?  He wasn't the one who loaded the replica revolver nor was it his job to check it. It should be the armorer's fault only.

Whomever put actual bullets in the gun should be the one getting sentenced. Yes, Alec shot the gun, but he had no reason to believe there would be live bullets in a PROP GUN on a MOVIE SET. So, why punish him??? That's ridiculous.

She's charged as well. 

 

People state Alec would have probably got no charges but his interview on ABC tv, mocking her is why the charges happen  

From my friend in New Mexico. A maga politician became national headlines after being charged and found in their one week investigation to be involved in a paid to ****** his democratic opponents,  so they even stated they knew that case was national headlines and bringing heat as usual. 

 

To they just announced this and the media moved to this to bring heat off of the other case. 

It's a distraction in the citizens of New Mexico.
