A SEMI-NEW WHITNEY HOUSTON SONG GETS AN EDM UPDATE.

The Whitney Houston estate released her cover of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” as a Japanese bonus track on her 1990 album I’m Your Baby Tonight, but the song received a dance-floor ready re-working by Norwegian producer, Kygo. The original topped the charts in 1986.

The reason it never made Baby Tonight was purely strategic. “When [producer] Narada Michael Walden sent me ‘Higher Love’ with the Whitney vocal, we didn’t want her being a cover artist at that time,” record producer Clive Davis said.

Kygo was selected as the producer to reimagine “Higher Love” because execs were pleased with his remix of Marvin Gaye’s “****** Healing.”

A thumping piano, synths and other production gymnastics breathe new life into the classic. Whitney’s vocals are as striking and vibrant as ever.

It’s bittersweet to hear something fresh from Queen Whitney because her presence is sorely missed, but fortunately Kygo did her justice; “Higher Love” sounds incredible.

There’s more material from the Whitney estate expected to debut soon, as well as a hologram tour.
