U.S has bad taste, I guess.:ponderney:

In the BRITNEY era, she was banned in the U.S. That album deserved MORE recognition, it's a masterpiece.:endit:

I know right. Still don't get how the radio ban was even possible and 'legal', juest because she wanted Pepsi as her tour sponsor...

One thing that has shocked me when I discovered Wikipedia was the fact that a lot of her songs haven't charted well in the US at all and yet were worldwide smashes elsewhere.

I swear I'm a Slave 4 U was an iconic smash and yet you could say it flopped in the US :squintney:

I was surprised too:britlol:

I can't believe how many of you don't know this but...

Jive limited the physical release of almost all her pre-ITZ singles to increased album sales.
So most of her singles were chart with radio play only. That's why they chart poorly.
Imagining hearing a song but can't purchased it separately.

Take BOMT as a sample:

BOMT (both CD/Radio) #1

Sometimes (Radio only) #21
Crazy (Radio only) #10
FTBOMBH (CD/Radio) #14

You can tell that despite being less popular, FTBOMBH charted higher than sometimes, and went platinum easily.
(BTW all 4 singles from Christina's debut are released as CD single)
And for Oops, only Stronger was released (and rather late).
Slave 4 U was only released as vinyl.

So they charted lower not because they were banned from radio.

In fact, they charted because they were popular on the radio.

It’s really surprising that some of Britney’s most recognised and celebrated songs actually charted so low in the US - it just baffles me especially between 1999 - 2004 when she dominated pop music. It’s a good job internationally her singles were much more successful in terms of sales.
