  1. In 1997, Music was way more variety than what it is today.. Chumbawamba had the bar rock anthem with Tubthumpin', JANET, Erykah Badu gave us neo soul,, Spice girls brought BRITISH pop to the US shores, so there was something for everyone.. One rare thing that was extremely popular 25 year's ago, Melisma vocals and power ballad's.. The teaming of Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand, mind you Barbara Streisand actually got her biggest hit in the 90s with a duet with Bryan Adams, for the theme song for her movie The mirror has two faces, one of the few times, she directed, abd starred in to prove that the industry is not just for Men, but women can do it all as well. This duet between two of the most iconic voices in adult contemporary music, and David foster, who in the 90s, was this genres go to Guy for huge diva ballad's.. and the results is pure Magic.. Celine Dion is working with the artist she admired and looked Up to as the perfect artist when it comes to vocals and how to deliver the songs vocal delivery start soft and build up to climatic note that makes the average person grasping for Air. You'll never get another artist like Babs and Celine Dion..

  5. Mariah Carey reflects on an encounter she had with Céline Dion in her new new autobiography, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, out now. Mariah and Céline, along with Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan and Carole King performed a tribute to Aretha Franklin (who also performed) at the inaugural Divas Live show, which aired April 14, 1998, on VH1. Mariah doesn't specifically mention Celine's name, but it's no doubt about her. She said: “We all knew our part, but we also knew it was an Aretha song. Well, almost all of us knew “. Mariah speaks of the "attempt made by another of the divas to face the queen [Aretha] during the song" [You Make Me Fell Like a Natural Woman "]. Although Mariah says the result was "good", she adds "I never would have done that". Mariah also talked about the final performance, “Testimony”, in which the “duel diva” is a clear reference to Céline. “The duel diva had gone too far before (in my humble opinion) and seemed to be trying to outdo Aretha. That. It happened. I couldn't believe that someone was trying to outshine Aretha Franklin in his honor while singing about Jesus. Maybe it was a big cultural gap, but it seemed like crazy to me, and I didn't want to participate in that. As this happened, my body started involuntarily to retreat out of the Divas line and I started to join the support singers, most of whom I knew. It seemed like blasphemy to me, and I wanted to be out of reach if the lightning came.” Thoughts, Exhale? Related:
  6. Between those six divas, who was the most popular female artist spanning the 90s? Not just how many records did each sell but who really dominated the 90s music and pop culture scene OVERALL? I always hear Mariah Carey was regarded as the most 'popular' but when I look at the stats, it seems like Madonna, Whitney and Celine were far more global and popular. ANYWAY - what is the general consensus on this? Who was the most popular female artist during the 90s or how would you rank them? If there is someone I left out, please let me know as well.
  7. When it comes to the vocal trinity... people usually ignore or rarely talk about Celine Dion. As an artist I feel she's underrated and definitely not just a damn boat song. But unlike whitney or Mariah, she really has done every genre. She even worked with Max Martin in his early years before his 2010 domination of the last decade in pop music. We need to praise Celine for not sticking to one genre, but actually experimenting in several genres of pop and classical music.
  8. Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, and Lang Lang closed out the 'One World' special with a performance of "The Prayer." The harmonies in the end Gaga did such an incredible job putting this together.
