Did Britney's kiss with Madonna herald gay marriage?

On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts became the first U.S. state and the sixth jurisdiction in the world to legalize same-s** marriage. It was legalized at a federal level in 2015.

Britney (a female) kissed Madonna (a masculine female) at the VMA awards show in 2003 in a mock LGBT marriage ceremony. Missy Elliott (a gay female) was also present at the ceremony as Aguilera's groom, although she didn't partake in the kiss.

I always wondered why Madonna and the others didn't kiss Missy? Perhaps a racist micro-aggression or they were apprehensive because she's genuinely gay.

Anyway, the kiss and marriage ceremony was obviously a commentary on gay marriage, however haphazard.
