Britney almost debuted with Genie In a Bottle

Recommended Posts

"Prior to being recorded by Aguilera, the track received much interest from the writers of the up-and-coming girl group Innosense, who felt that the band was more likely to make the song a hit. However, after RCA Records executive Ron Fair pushed for the track, the writers allowed Aguilera to record the track, and had "no doubt" she was the right performer after she completed the recording." Also, watch this interview from the writer of Genie In a Bottle, confirming the song was written in 1997 and that the group Innosense had interest in it. (0:30)

I’ve always liked Genie, but at the time it was hard to get into it. The live performances were so flat and lack luster compared to what we were seeing Britney do( go watch both of their teens choice awards performances). I think it still would’ve been a hit if someone else recorded it.
