tv isn't the most popular source of media anymore, the internet overshadowed it. MTV will never get that audience back nor will any other tv station, but nowadays people gif the show and put it on twitter, tumblr as well as post video from it. so while it might not have that audience number tuned into it live, the same amount of people if not larger will see the more important parts of the show
