Filed on Monday the complaint against multiple GBB entities and four former executives of Revlon's fragrance team in the Southern District of New York, alleging that when the executives left Revlon in May, they took not only the Britney Brands business but also a host of its trade secrets

She was paid $52M by Elizabeth Arden for the deal.

No celebrity owns their own fragrance. Unless they have their own olfactory laboratories, and a team of scientists 

Celebrities licence their name and image to the highest bidder.

The highest bidder makes bottles of perfume with celebrity’s name and image on. Celebrity does a few publicity shots plus marketing videos and they both rake the cash in.

So Britney only licences her name and likeness to her perfumes. She may or may not be involved in the final say of which bottle number she likes before going to production (Chanel no. 5 was the bottle number Coco liked best).

Britney probably was heavily involved in shaping and choosing the fragrances early on, but after 44 different perfumes, 18 of which are variations of Fantasy, I doubt she even smells them before going to production.

Therefore, she - like most celebrities - doesn’t make any money off the sale of a bottle of perfume. Instead she gets a fixed lump sum in the beginning for her name and face. This is renewed depending on the length of deal hashed out in the beginning (usually it’s 5 - 15 years)

I can only read the article with a subscription, but as I understand it, the Revlon employees who worked on Britney's fragrances stole trade secrets to give to a competitor and violated contracts with Revlon. Who the employees are, no idea...

It may involve violating contracts with the Britney Brands, but I'm not sure Britney is under creative control of anything on her brands.

I wonder what the trade secrets were.... Britney's pallette for crawfish that's been enfused in every fragrance. It makes so much sense then that they are all sinfully delectable on the skin.

I'll try to translate: It seems Britney fragrances have left Revlon after Britney brands refused to renew her contract  

 

Britney fragrances contract renews every 5 years, being 2018 her last renewal. Now former Revlon employees took Britney's fragrances deal with them for a more juicy deal for Britney. So Revlon is filing a lawsuit against those employees 

 

This would explain why Britney's fortune report from early this year was pretty big while not actively working 

 

Now the question remains whether Revlon retains any of Britney's Fantasy collection or not. But my guess is they do not! 

 

But this is good news since her Revlon contract was arranged by team con back in 2010/2011. This is a fresh new start for her fragrance collection under a new label and new contract and it might finally bring new stuff to the table

That site is not updated since 2021 so that's why you see Colon's name. 

 

What Revlon's former employees did was take Britney's deal with them because it was about to expire and offer a better deal for Britney to a competitor. Revlon is mad at this negotiation behind their backs so they're suing 

 

It's pretty much when a company works with a client but then that client decides not to renew their contract but they offer some of the company's members to come with them so they can keep the same team. Companies hate that but it's business

The company has struggled to attract younger shoppers who are choosing celebrity makeup lines like those from Kylie Jenner and Rihanna.

IMO, Revlon acquiring Britney's perfume line cheapened the brand. She should've gone independent with her fragrance line and sell it through her own brand, but of course the conservatorship only cared about making quick money and investing the lease amount of money possible.

it's worth noting Britney fragrances seem to be licensed by Give Back Beauty now 

 

Give Back Beauty currently has license and agreements with Tommy Hilfiger fragrance, Mercedes Benz fragrances, among other brands. Could they be planing to expand her brand into makeup collection as well?
