Le sigh. JAY-Z and Roc Nation are in charge of the SB Halftime Show. JAY reportedly urged JLo to cut the political statement from her performance, but she didn't budge.

Quote

Sources at Roc Nation exclusively tell lovebscott.com that moment almost didn’t happen. The political statement about the border crisis was J. Lo’s brainchild, a response to the Trump administration’s controversial immigration policy detaining undocumented minors in cages. But Roc Nation, the management/production company headed by Jay-Z, fought to get her to cut it from her set. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation deal with the NFL is supposed to be working to smooth over the drama caused by Colin Kaepernick’s social justice protest; but a lot of people aren’t happy with the partnership- including some inside the rapper’s own organization.

Sources also exclusively tell lovebscott.com that despite a great deal of pressure from Roc Nation, Jennifer put her foot down and insisted on keeping the segment. We’re told Jay himself even tried to personally intervene to convince her, but Jennifer would not be moved away from the idea. Apparently, tensions ran so high between the two camps that Lopez eventually pulled out of joining Shakira for the opening number of the halftime show. Instead, Shakira and J. Lo only performed together briefly at the end of the show. Roc Nation also encouraged Shakira (a Roc Nation client) to not appear onstage during “Born In The USA”, but the singer eventually decided to do it anyway, “playing drums during the number.”

I thought Beyonce boycotted the Superbowl right? Didnt her fans talked so much **** about JT, Maroon 5 and Travis Scott doing in the past 2 years? or is just ok to do the superbowl when her hubby is benefitting from it? :thinkney:

I thought it was weird that Shakira appeared by herself at the beginning. It was also weird that she re-appeared playing the drums lol

It almost seemed like Shakira was the opening number to JLo; having an opening number by the two of them would've made more sense. Or do 1 song Shakira, 1 song JLo, back and forth until the final number together.

Whoever is in charge of the SuperBowl halftime show, must be a difficult task. In one hand they have to deal with the censorship and stuff, but on the other hand what (big) artist will be willing to do a performance when they're gonna be told what to do or what not to do at that moment of their careers, and in this day and age when everyone is seeking that freedom of speech and taking this kind of events to send a message? I mean, didn't Pink and Rihanna already refuse to do the show (even if it was for other reasons) ?
