When Miley Cyrus dropped her SoundCloud album Miley Cyrus and her dead pets, she was original the owner that licensed it to RCA records. That was 2017, now RCA Records 100% owns this album .

But she couldn't go to Columbia records and sign a new contract. Technically she owed RCA, one more album, she only issued 3 Bangerz, younger Now and Plastic hearts. So how did she fulfill the deal. She sold the rights to her 2015 album to RCA, therefore by law, and legal terms by them owning it, she fulfilled her 4 album deal. Making her free to go. 

 

Kinda sad, but in the end it made her free of the contract.

Well yeah that makes sense if she had to fulfil her contract with them. She originally released Dead Petz on SoundCloud through Smiley Miley but then RCA rereleased it on other platforms in 2017.

I don't see what's sad about that? She was able to maintain complete creative control in releasing it that way, and now it again frees her up to greener pastures and creative endeavors

That was very smart, ofc is sad that she doesn't own it, but yay! Hopefully, in the future, she can buy them one by one and bring them to Smiley Miley.
